How do you start your day?

Have you ever considered the way your day starts could be the key to feeling great? I was recently talking to a colleague who is constantly tired and has headaches all day long plus she hardly looks like she is thriving in life and has weight issues. She was saying she wakes up and will try and have a slice of toast and a coffee but sometimes skips this entirely and just leaves the house for work. It can be lunchtime before she even eats or drinks a thing.

The very idea of this just floored me, my first thought was her wee must be dark brown from being constantly dehydrated, but it seems it’s not uncommon, many people start their days in a similar way. Being the interfering control freak type that I am Grin I wrote her a plan to try the next day to see if it made her feel better. The main change I said to make was adding water into her morning routine.

Drinking 1 glass before anything else really does massively affect how your body starts working. She’s been drinking water and making time for breakfast for the last few weeks and she’s like a different person. I made her promise me not to leave the house before she’s had at least 1 litre of water and to drink more throughout the day.

Anyway, how do you start your day off? I’ll go first and as someone who likes routine and has the time to do this it is probably quite long for a lot of people but it’s just my way... disclaimer I don’t have kids.

I wake up, go to the loo and then go to the kitchen. I take 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and chew until liquid and then swish it around my mouth for 20 minutes. As I do this I prepare breakfast and my celery juice (yes I’ve sworn by it since February it’s quite amazing but that’s for another post). After the oil pulling I then drink the celery juice. I wait another 20 minutes before then drinking around half a litre of water with half a lemon squeezed into it. Breakfast usually is muesli and a Coffee. I take a vitamin C pill and COD liver oil capsule. Before I leave the house I aim to drink another litre of water.

I tell everyone I meet, drink water like there’s no tomorrow, it will change your life. If you are struggling with weight loss then drinking a lot more water may be the answer. No judging here, I’m just curious to see what everyone does or did before making a change.

If your day starts off without structure or without the first step being positive then your whole day is going to be out of whack.

This is a very interesting thread!

Stardustmoon · 27/08/2019 18:26

Please explain the oil in the mouth?!

LakesandTarns · 27/08/2019 22:12

I tried oil pulling once but my face ached after about 2 minutes, and I got bored

Wehttam · 28/08/2019 11:46

Sorry for the delayed response!

Oil Pulling. The swishing of coconut oil for 20 minutes First thing in the morning pulls bacteria out of your mouth. It’s amazing for dental health and makes your teeth super white too. Make sure you spit it into a container though because it will block up your sink plumbing. You can start by doing it for 5 or 10 minutes and slowly build up, it’s a strange sensation but you do get used to it quickly and the benefits are great. Here is a link with some basic information;

Celery juice though is something else completely. I try not to preach about it too much because once I start it’s hard for me to stop. It totally transforms your day and well-being. Essentially you juice (not smoothie, no pulp just juice) a whole bunch of celery (1.5 for me) and drink it on an empty stomach. After 20-30 minutes you can then have water and breakfast. You add nothing to the juice, it’s just the celery, ideally 16floz. It really does work.

It starts your day in the most amazing way, for those looking to be healthy it’s a foundation you build your day upon. In short it sorts out your digestion which then goes on to help put right many issues that are caused because of said poor digestion. If you suffer with constipation, migraines, acid reflux, acne, dull hair, fatigue, brain fog and a lot more then it will certainly have a good bash at helping you out and you will see and feel results within a week or two.

Medical Medium Anthony Williams started this, he isn’t a Dr so if you do consider trying it make sure you consult yours if you have any medical issues just to make sure you would be ok doing it.

For the skeptics I would be interested to see how it works for you.

If you can’t do the oil pulling or celery juice then make sure you drink plenty of water. Starting the day with a glass of water helps hydrate and flush your body from the toxins you have been purging in your sleep.

You flush your toilet with water, so flush your self with water too!

I do not eat breakfast. I have not done this for maybe 20 years. The odd occasion I do I feel ill for the rest of the day. I don't drink enough water though but that's tricky for me as I'm a Community Nurse so not always near a toilet.

ChocOrCheese · 29/08/2019 17:46

Wake up, loo, vitamins with a full glass (maybe a bit more) of water, large mug of green tea while getting ready for the gym, about a litre of water consumed while working out for an hour, large mug of green tea afterwards, maybe also a black coffee. Eat nothing until 2pm. Feel fabulous on this regime and have kept it up for some three years so if it was going to kill me it would have done so by now, I reckon.

YesQueen · 29/08/2019 22:02

Get up, cup of tea. I do all my matched betting admin while I drink it then makeup etc/hair/dress
Drink probably a pint of so of water, take meds, multi cut and omega 3 if I remember

If I eat then it's full fat Greek yoghurt and a few raspberries or egg mayo, otherwise I eat when I get to work

Wehttam · 29/08/2019 23:49

Chocorcheese loving the green tea and water 💦💦💦💦💦

Yesqueen does the matched betting work? 🤔🧐

Boredbored are you not ridiculously exhausted by midday? My kidneys would be crying out for a flush of water.

Yep, very well!! I've been doing it over 6 months now

LoonyLunaLoo · 16/09/2019 21:26

I’d be sick if I had to keep coconut oil in my mouth for 20 mins! Mind you I’d be more sick if I had to drink celery juice so I guess your routine isn’t for me...

I have a hot chocolate with coffee in first thing and I take a bottle of water with a supermarket version of Berocca in to work, which gives me tons of energy. No breakfast as cereal bloats me and I don’t have time to make anything else.

Otherwise I drink water, squash, green tea and decaf coffee after 12pm.

SlothRunner · 16/09/2019 21:32

Swilling coconut oil around your mouth for 20 mins?! Nope

I get up at 6:30, get ready, leave for work at 7. Get there about 7:30. Eat breakfast at about 8:15. Drink loads of water all through the day

Wehttam · 05/04/2020 11:31

👋🏼 Bumping this for those looking at their well-being during Lockdown.

Drink plenty of water 💧

What do you do in the morning? 👍🏻

Does squash have the same effect as plain water?

Mixitupalot · 05/04/2020 22:53

Hi, interesting thread. I can’t eat in the morning it makes me feel sick. I haven’t eaten breakfast in at least 15 years. I drink a cup of tea get washed dressed and go to work. Have lunch at 1:30 and drink tons of water during the day.

It works for me & I usually feel pretty healthy. I exercise in the evenings or first thing in the morning depending on my shifts.

Wehttam · 08/04/2020 22:37

Changedname I think squash counts as fluid intake but ideally it should be plain simple water, infused water is fine because it’s natural flavourings whereas squash could have additives and high sugar/ sweetener content.

Usually food wise I start my day with a celery, carrot, orange and ginger smoothie, but since lockdown I start with a skinny cappuccino and some chocolate. This keeps my cravings at bay all day (at work usually have the coffee and chocolate) and I'm still losing weight.

LatteLarrys · 12/04/2020 23:27

Oil pulling is proven to be absolute and utter tosh.

I feel for your poor work colleague. I hope she was just being polite to get you off her case.

Oh and no need to glue water like there's no tomorrow either. 2 litres a day is absolutely ample. Too much actually places strain on the kidneys

So an awful lot of your evangelical 'advice' is bollocks.

As to what I do in the morning, I have a Pukka latte made with cashew milk, a glass of water and a bowl of Greek yogurt with some crushed nuts and a few berries. You should be doing as I do OP... Wink
