I generally eat quite well....smoothie for breakfast, raw veg and falafel for lunch and dinner usually consists of meat and salad with a pitta
I'm not that strict, some nights I have pasta, pizza, wine etc
But generally I eat healthy

I started going to the gym 3 weeks ago and have been a bit stricter, counting calories etc and I've GAINED 3lbs

I'm so disheartened, where am I going wrong?
I have been going on average 3 times a week but it's only been 3 weeks so not long enough to have gained 3lb of muscle
Plus I have lost of fat to burn

My weight seems to be going on my hips which are suddenly much bigger and all my jeans are more uncomfortable

HELP

Are you weighing your food when you count calories or being approximate? I have to weigh everything as I have a very distorted view of portions.

A really common thing people do is eat their calories back. So if someone's burnt 300 calories at the gym, they see them as free calories. You also might just not be burning as many calories as you think.

I would focus more on increasing your activity across the whole day - get your steps in - than what you're doing in the gym.

Agree with PP too, people are terrible at guessing their portion sizes. You don't need to weigh obsessively but if you just do it for a couple of weeks, you can see if you're going wrong there.

I generally weigh although I don't weigh vegetables but assumed it wouldn't matter so much with veg

Could that be it? Could I be eating too much in terms of veg and fruit?
