Where am I going wrong? Gaining weight

I’m reasonably fit and healthy, I go to the gym and eat a balanced diet. A year ago I was able to eat pretty much what I wanted without gaining weight, I was a size ten and around 9 stone, had a flat stomach and although I worked hard at maintaining my weight (going to the gym, walking a lot)I felt pretty good. A year on and I gained a little bit, took a few months off the gym. Went back to the gym after Christmas, I go 4-5 times a week and I can’t shift the weight, I’m watching what I eat, stopped buying unhealthy food (no chocolate in the house), having smaller meals etc... but I can’t seem to get the weight off.

My average food in a day is...
Breakfast - one weetabix with a spoon full of yoghurt and half a banana.
Snack (after the gym)- cup of tea and 2 go ahead biscuits.
Lunch- ham and salad sandwich on brown seeded bread and a satsuma.
Dinner- salmon, leaks and broccoli, some fat free yoghurt.

If I get hungry in the evening I have a handful of almonds of a couple satsumas.

I’m burning between 350-450cals at the gym.

I know I probably need to cut down the carbs but I’m finding hard to find things that fill me up which means I’m getting hungry in the evening.

I want to fit into my size 10 clothes from last summer.

I think it took me a good 3 1/2 months but I'd say a quarter-a third of the weeks I didn't stick to it at all xD so potentially I could have lost it quicker. But every week I stuck to it I lost the weight. Usually 2-3 pounds. Sometimes a little more.

I didn't up my exercise at all either and my diet wasn't particularly unhealthy beforehand so I was pleased with the loss. Maybe if i'd got off my ass and gone to they gym it would have been faster xD

I was told seeded bread is better as it fills you up for longer? It doesn’t seem to fill me up, nothing does.

^

OK, so cut the bread.

Have salads with lots of protein, soups made with lentils and veggies, white baked and baked sweet potato instead etc.

I've cut out porridge and replaced for eggs. Porridge, pasta and bread make me hungrier than if I hadn't ate!

Just had a wee look at my calender, worked out at 3 months and 4 days (minus my cheat weeks xD)

That’s really good going Teaforthewin, especially as you didn’t stick to it 100%! Just goes to show that if you keep plugging away, it does come off even if you aren’t perfect all of the time.
One more question....how old are you?! Please don’t say 20- something 😂

TeaForTheWin · 08/05/2019 17:55

Yeh, I think just trying to keep the mindset of 'ok this is a new week, last week was last week and this is this week' helped. That and just not letting myself buy anything I knew I wasn't allowed. But I don't have kids so that was easier for me I guess as only had to feed myself. If there had been stuff in the house I'm sure I would have caved more often.

Haha 30, just. I was on the cusp when doing the diet. Piled on the pounds this last 3 years or so, so I think my metabolism is no longer that of yonder years xD

Winealot · 08/05/2019 18:22

Haha, yes it’s hard with the temptation all around me!
I’m sure at 30 your metabolism is fine, make the most of it!
Really well done especially as you weren’t heavy to begin with x
