Waiting for weight-loss surgery?

Thought I'd start a weee thread for those of us awaiting bariatric surgery. I've just been referred by my GP to have it done on the NHS because of my diabetes, so waiting for first appointment, then I'm told it's a 3-6 month wait. So I'm hoping to have surgery before christmas.

Anyone else?

Just so you don't feel lonely! What does bariatric surgery involve? How much do you need to lose? Is it available on the NHS?

snowwonder · 16/07/2007 17:42

how much over weight are you?

you dont look to much over weight in pics..

Hiya, I have somewhere in the region of 10 stone plus to lose. I'm 20st 4lb at the mo (glad I don't look it in my pics!)
Bariatric surgery = weight loss surgery (either gastric band or gastric bypass usually).
It's a bit of a postcode lottery as to whether it's available on the NHS and what the criteria are in each local health authority. I am getting it on the NHS because I meet several of the Hampshire PCT criteria (BMI over 45 with type 2 diabetes & high cholesterol).
