How much weight before I notice

I know this has been done to death, but I have been dieting since December, have lost 18lbs and no one has noticed!! I don’t feel any different and the only difference is my clothes are a little looser.

I am 5’ 2” and was 170lbs - this morning was 152. I was (admittedly) squuezing into a size 14 at the start because I refused to buy 16. I am still wearing all the same clothes, a few size 12s in there from marks and next, but most of my everyday clothes are still size 14.

The weight loss is so slow and I a more sing the will to continue!!! Please tell me it gets easier.

Has it come off your face at all? People notice your face first.

I suppose I have noticed a slighted thinning in my face, I had the beginnignings of a double chin which has now gone!

I suppose nearly 20lbs sounds like so much, I am just disappointed I don’t look thinner. Hopefully in another 10lbs I will for back into my size 12 clothes. I had a wardrobe full of beautiful and expensive clothes in a size 10 or 12. When I was bigger I punished myself by buying ugly clothes! I threw a lot of them away beciase of how unhappy they make me and whittled it’s it down to a few items to see me through until my lovely clothes got again.

Well done you - 18lbs is a great loss. I've lost 11lbs since 1st Jan, I'm also 5ft 2 and no-one has noticed. My clothes size hasn't changed. I reckon I need to lose another 10lbs to a stone before any difference really. Keep going - aim for another 10lbs - I'm sure you'll be noticed then , and probably be into your size 12's.

I've lost 10.5lbs OP and nobody has noticed at all so I understand what you mean. I don't think people are as aware as we think!

howhowhow · 22/03/2019 11:14

I think people do notice but think it's rude to mention it if you were very overweight before. They will start commenting when you are actually thin in my experience. I've lost loads since the start of the year. The only people who have commented are my husband (as I bore him rigid about my diet) and one friend who is teasing me that I'm going to disappear (I'm not). But my daughters friend had told her that she thinks I have lost loads and apparently I am only eating 100 cals a day!! I'm still a bit fat.

Don't worry what you look like it is all about how you feel and 20 pounds down you must be feeling great!

Crazzzycat · 22/03/2019 12:53

I’m surprised you’ve not noticed much change yourself. I lost a similar amount and, while no-one has made any comments, I’ve noticed the changes!

I’m 5’10” so would expect that kind of weight loss to be far less noticeable on me than on someone who is shorter 🤔

Do you have any photos from when you just started, or before that? Could it be that you’re underestimating the changes you’ve made?

Regardless of whether others notice the changes or not, losing 18lbs is guaranteed to have made a huge difference to your health, so don’t give up! You’ve done great Flowers

18lbs is awesome—keep going regardless of other people noticing. That really is the least of it.

To put it into perspective how unobservant some people can be—a friend of mine was working abroad for a while so I didn’t see him for around 8 months and in that time I lost over 60lbs. When I did see him HE DIDNT NOTICE. When I told him (after we had been catching up for around an hour already with no comment) he kind of squinted at me and said “have you?” 😂 Don’t despair OP—for some people it’s just not on their radar! You really have to be doing it for yourself.

I have just started on the weight loss and have only lost a few pounds so a big well done on your 18lbs. I am similar to where you were, refusing to buy next size up and squeezing into clothes i shouldn't be. I am hoping these will begin to feel more comfortable when I lose the first stone. I am currently trying to focus on getting into the next stone down but that is still some weeks off. Anyone got some good motivation tips?

bumblenbean · 24/03/2019 10:35

It’s frustrating isn’t it! I’ve lost a stone, so not as much as you, but I don’t seem to look (or feel) remotely different and clothes don’t seem to fit any better Hmm. A couple of people have mentioned I look slimmer but only if they know I’ve been dieting 🙈

Dippypippy1980 · 24/03/2019 11:56

On motivation I reorganised my wardrobe. Got rid of all the clothes I hates then set out a few outfits that I loved but didn’t quite fit.

I try them on once a fortnight, and it’s great when they start to fit
