Brilliant benefits of carrying less weight

MagicKeysToAsda · 27/12/2018 14:21

I thought I would start a thread for all the unexpected (or expected, maybe long-hoped for...) benefits that everyone has discovered alongside losing weight. The idea is to share achievements and goals to keep up motivation to keep going in the year to come. To kick us off:

  • I can run 3.5 miles pretty comfortably now. 12 months ago I couldn't run for 60 seconds. It makes me feel unstoppable even though mobility scooters could overtake me easily
  • There's a lot more clothes choice when I need to shop, and a lot less fear of being trapped forever when trying things on Grin
  • I feel much healthier and have loads more energy for the DC

So that's me. How about you, what has been fab so far about losing weight? What are you looking forward to most about being healthier?

To go on theme park rides with the kids without having to worry about the safety belt/ bar not doing up!

MagicKeysToAsda · 27/12/2018 14:36

That's a great one. Yes, definitely being able to sit down without fear of getting stuck (white plastic cafe chairs, I'm looking at you).

My knees and ankles aren't sore and I don't sigh when I stand up! I also don't feel invisible.

CatherineCawood · 27/12/2018 14:46

Where to start? I'm a proper pear shape who has lost 3.5 stone. The upsides for me are:

Restaurant seats with sides- no longer dread them as I can fit in

The clothes - OMG the clothes I can wear. Wore a fitted dress from Warehouse on Xmas day size 16 felt amazing (was a size 22)

Don't sweat as much so not paranoid about smelling

Not worried about going to gp or hospital. Not worried i will be turned away or laughed at.

No more chub rub

Airplane seats or any public transport seats

Not worried that in a fire a fireman can't lift me and rescue me

Feel that I'm taken more seriously at work and in life generally

I'm sure there are more!

CatherineCawood · 27/12/2018 14:49

Oh yeah I forgot I'm so fit now too. Regularly run 10 miles have done a marathon and several other races.

I needed this thread I've been VERY off plan for the last 5 days need to get back on it. I've run a fair bit but food choices have been questionable!

Thanks OP

LoveManyTrustfew · 27/12/2018 14:54

I lost five and a half stone on the cancer diet, I am now three years clear and the weight has yet to return.

I went from 13.5 stone to eight and the weight has stayed off thank God.

For me it is picking up something and knowing that it will fit.

I also let my hair grow out and I am now the most amazing shade of grey (even if I say so myself) and I feel more confident and attractive at 54 than I have ever felt in my entire life.

HollowTalk · 27/12/2018 14:56

How much weight did you lose last year, OP?

CatherineCawood · 27/12/2018 15:06

Lovemany glad to hear you are well and feeling so confident Smile

That's one heck of a diet to go through!

LoveManyTrustfew · 27/12/2018 16:18

Hollowtalk

I had tonsil cancer, so I can eat very little mainly soft food always with sauce and I have to water my wine, but I push on stocially. Grin Grin

LoveManyTrustfew · 27/12/2018 16:19

Sorry Catherine Cawood. Xmas Blush

BillywigSting · 27/12/2018 16:25

High heels are far more comfortable and I can wear them for most of the day instead of half an hour tops.

Bras are no longer evil stabby torture devices.

I can wear nice boots again so my feet don't freeze in winter (still have cankles though Sad )

The sex is loads better Grin

feelingverylazytoday · 27/12/2018 16:30

Can buy clothes from Primark kids department. They're so cheap.

PearlandRubies194 · 27/12/2018 16:33

Well done on all your achievements so far!

I would love to feel my age and not many years older.

I’d love to be able to walk straight with my head held high and not stooped, because I’m avoiding eye contact and want to be invisible.

I’d love to wear a fitted dress or jeans and feel sexy - yes, I want to feel sexy again! I’ve been single for over 6 years and I need to love myself or I won’t be able to be loved by anyone else.

Impicciona · 27/12/2018 16:38

I've lost 8 stone so there are massive differences.

  • not worrying that I won't fit through the space between tables at restaurants.
  • not worrying about DH being smothered and/or crushed if I'm on top
  • DH can pick me up now which is both terrifying and exhilarating.
  • I can comfortably cross my legs.
  • I can buy off the shelf knee length boots.
  • As someone else said air travel is far more comfortable.
  • the clothes ... Oh the clothes I can wear Grin and finally look exactly like I think in my head in cute outfits.
Butternutissquashed · 27/12/2018 16:56

Thank you for this thread. It’s made me put down the peanuts and get a drink of water instead! These are the things that I need to focus on when I can feel the willpower slipping away!

MagicKeysToAsda · 27/12/2018 17:44

5 stone off, to those who asked Smile One more to go.

Definitely agree with an end to sweatiness, and achey knees! Last summer was unpleasantly hot but my body coped so much better with the heat than it did when heavier.

Love this thread. I need to start losing a significant amount of weight and this will help me!

Mabelface · 27/12/2018 18:03

Fastening my shoe laces easily without my belly getting in the way.

Tailrunner · 27/12/2018 18:06

This is a great thread, thanks. I've lost 1.5 stone but have 3+ to go and I need some motivation to keep me on track. I've read too many threads recently where people said they don't feel any better because they are all saggy now and look worse than before Shock. I'm losing weight mainly to get healthy but it's freaked me out a bit (particularly as I've been overweight for ages and had 2 c-sections so I'm saggy and stretched already Sad). I needed a positive thread like this so thanks!

flowerycurtain · 27/12/2018 18:10

I've lost 5.5 stone.

I'm so much healthier - I very rarely get colds and I just cope with life so much better.

I love shopping

I love that I can have the ofd
Blow out and still look fab

I'm a good role model for my kids

Like other posters I too have taken up running and feel I can take on the world!

pisspawpatrol · 27/12/2018 18:51

When DH and I lost 3st each, we were excited to find there is more space to sleep in the bed!

beela · 27/12/2018 19:03

Yes, high heels! 👠

Going shopping and choosing the things that suit me, not just the things that fit and don't look too terrible.

Children's clothes! Who knew that an age 15-16 was the same as a size 10?! Bargains.

Photos of me that I like.

3 stone off here, and I am also putting down the quality street and drinking a glass of water Xmas Grin

IndianaMoleWoman · 27/12/2018 19:22

All the compliments and lovely comments. At first I felt really awkward and self conscious but as time went on and more people said nice things I learnt to take a compliment and actually believe it for the first time in my life.

Also, you can fit more clothes in the washer/dryer/on the line/in your suitcase because they are smaller.

When you are invited out somewhere you don’t immediately start panicking about finding an outfit you won’t look hideous in/thinking up an excuse not to go because you feel like such a mess. You actually look forwards to choosing something and having a fab time/seeing the pictures the next day.

NikiFree · 27/12/2018 19:27

My thighs don't rub together anymore or chafe painfully in summer.

There isn't so much fat spilling over the sides of my bra under the arm.

My stomach is flat and so much more comfortable wearing jeans.

I don't have love handles any more.

BentNeckLady · 27/12/2018 19:38

I can see to sort out my bikini line
I don’t have painful knees, ankles or feet any more
I’m no longer invisible
Clothes!!!
I feel so much better about myself.
