Help me lose weight :(

Countdownto40 · 07/08/2018 19:54

I really want to lose around 1.5 stones before I hit 40 early next year but I just can't seem to stick a diet.

I even started a thread on here to keep me on track but I abandon it when I fall off the wagon and pick it up again on Monday morning when I'm motivated again Blush

My meals are quite good - eggs or low carb/protein cereal for breakfast, soup/salad for lunch, normal dinner but no carbs. It's the snacking in between. I crave salt so I eat crisps. I can't resist food in the kitchen at work. I eat my toddler's leftovers. I love eating and never give my mouth a rest. Blush

I've done well on BIWI's bootcamp before but got sick of eggs for breakfast!

Todays menu was -

1 sausage and egg for breakfast
Lunch was a cold chicken thigh from fridge, a slice of ham DS didn't eat and a small bowl of bolognese
Dinner was 50g chorizo, 60g halloumi, 3/4 avocado and salad (lettuce, onion, tomakto, cucumber)

Snacks were - iced coffee, 2 bag of squares (DS didn't like his so I ate his too), a handful of prawn crackers, half a mango, a Lindor ball and the peel from DS's apple!

Any tips? I've lost and gained weight for the last 20 years! I've had success on weight watchers in the past and more recently low carb. Just can't seem to get into it and stick to it!

Do you have a favourite outfit that you can no longer get into? I have a lovely dress which I can now zip up but still a little snug. I plan to wear it in 3 weeks to a party so that my motivation to keep going.

Countdownto40 · 08/08/2018 15:14

@SentToTheSynByn - I have loads :(

I haven't worn anything with the top tucked in for years!

Hi

I dont think you are eating enough protein rich foods? I am a member of the james smith academy and he talks a lot of sense, so much so i left slimming world where i have been going for years! He has a lot of free content on fb / insta but the basics are you need to work out your calorie deficit and then eat at least 1.5 grams of protein per kilo of your weight. Im eating protein at every meal and it has cut 90% of my snacking as im so full.

delphguelph · 08/08/2018 15:49

If you're low carbing you need to up the veg.

^^

This is good, but you need to add loads of veg for fibre and bulk so you are full.

Your snacks totally negate your good eating though - I'm sure you realise this.

So, instead:

Sausage, veg (mushrooms, spinach, tomato) omelette
Chicken and ham salad - loads of veggies
Good but doesn't seem much?? Maybe add a chicken fillet?

Countdownto40 · 08/08/2018 16:54

Thanks @melissa. I'll bear that in mind.

@delphguelph - I know my snacks really let me down :(. Your revised menu for me looks yummy!

I don't think my lunch was filling enough so I ended up having one of those Nature Valley Oat Bars. Lesson learnt for tomorrow.

I added chorizo to my dinner and had a big salad too. One biscuit after dinner. Over 13,000 steps done Grin

Fab, just keep positive. Everything you eat, just think about adding an extra veg or fruit.

BIWI · 08/08/2018 21:33

Where, on Bootcamp rules, does it say that you have to have eggs for breakfast?!

If you were doing well on it, then why drop out and look for something else? There's no excuse for not enjoying good food - just look at all the great recipes on the different Bootcamp recipe threads!

Countdownto40 · 08/08/2018 22:02

@BIWI it doesn't Grin. Please suggest alternatives Grin

BIWI · 09/08/2018 11:47

There's loads of options.

For a start, how about a 'full English'? Bacon, (no eggs if you don't want Grin), low carb sausages, mushrooms, fried tomato.

Or a continental breakfast - sliced meats, cheeses

Full fat Greek yoghurt (with berries/nuts if you're passed the first two weeks of Bootcamp).

Or just have leftovers from the night before - no need to have specific breakfast foods.

After the first two weeks of Bootcamp, you don't even have to have breakfast, if you're not hungry.

SentToTheSynByn · 09/08/2018 13:29

How's it going today @Countdownto40?

With regard to eggs, I do find they keep me full for ages. Have you tried cooking them differently. I love cauliflower, so make egg fried cauliflower rice. I also make a very thin pancake out of two beaten eggs and use it as a wrap. Also frittata made with whizzed cottage cheese, eggs and veggies / salmon or breakfast muffins

I find fish is sustaining too, although I struggle to eat much as not too keen.

SchrodingersMeowth · 09/08/2018 13:40

There’s absolutely no point low carving if you keep stuff like crisps, chocolate and cereal in your diet. One portion of them would bump you out of ketosis and mean that you’re eating both high fat and high carb, making it really easy to put on weight.

Cut corners wherever you can, skin off chicken, sausages and other sausage meats aren’t good as it’s easy to lose count.

You really need to log in MFP!

Or you could eat exactly the same but only eat half of everything.

Countdownto40 · 09/08/2018 18:46

Today's been manic so sorry for not posting sooner!!

@BIWI thank you for the breakfast options. I need quick options as I do the morning nursery run before work so some of those are better for me than others. I'll have more time in October when I start work later so I can incorporate some of the ones that take longer, like the fry ups 😋

@SentToTheSynByn - today's been ok. Thanks for the eggy ideas, they all sounds good. I do love eggs I just got tired of having them every breakfast.

You are so right @SchrodingersMeowth, my snacking really lets me down.

I love avocado so could have that for breakfast? With bacon. Grin

I’m no expert in addressing the content of your food but think you’ve had good advice. I’d also suggest looking at your food habits - look into Paul Mckenna’s Freedom from emotional eating (there’s an app or book and CD). This pushes you to eat consciously, chew your food. Also look at Brain over binge by Kathryn Hansen if you’re prone to bingeing or eating when you’re not hungry. I have read the book and listen to the podcast.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 11/08/2018 21:55

As you asked - your diet seems very calorie and cholesterol high ! I am
Biased as beer towards veg and vegan

Notwithstanding would not replacing some of the meat and cheese with veg be less calories and healtheir overall ?

Also you seem to not be able to resist things . Which means maybe don’t have them near you?

Good luck - just one opinion Smile

Countdownto40 · 11/08/2018 21:58

Hi all! I'm back!

Gastro didn't have the added benefit of weight loss as it was DS's birthday so no routine and high carb food 🤦‍♀️

Back on track today but have a BBQ later 🤦‍♀️

Hi, just thought I'd share what worked for me as I didn't follow any plan! Started in Jan weighing 10st13, also 5ft 4, size 14, mid 40s- and unhappy. Tried weight watchers but to be honest it really pissed me off, I kept wanting to rebel against it and getting annoyed- I think the only benefit was it did give me some idea of how 'bad' some foods were. So I decided just to try to eat less, eat healthier and walk more. I cut out all alcohol at home but drink what I like if out or having friends over. I mostly got rid of snacks, stopped eating bits of the kids dinners, tried to stick to salads for lunch and smaller lower calorie dinners etc. I also didn't care if I blew it on occasion or snacked some days as long as most days I stuck to what I was doing. I don't exercise but started walking more and walking energetically not just meandering but not power walking either. So end result, I lost weight slowly over the last 6 months but currently weigh in at 9 stone (although on holiday atm eating lots of yum rubbish so pounds back on I imagine). This really isn't a stealth boast or anything but as someone who tried various diets and always ended up miserable and off plan which equates to 'being bad' or 'failing' I found my own path that meant I was happier and in the end more successful.
