I need to hear some success stories from people who felt like they'd never achieve fitness/come back from the brink of a heart attack waiting to happen. From anyone who feels like they literally don't have a second spare most days, I'd love to hear how you did it.
Has your 3 year old got their 3 hours per day nursery place? And your 5 year old at full time school? Do you work?
My 3 year old started nursery Januart this year and I used the 3h I got to myself each day to become healthy. I have 4 children (3, 8, 12 and 13) and so a very busy family life. I'm a SAHM
1st January 2018
● 17st 8.5lb. At 5"4' that put my BMI at 43 (morbidly obese). Size 22-24. I struggled to walk the 1k to school.
● Target weight 10st 1lb (BMI under 25). Long term goal: 8st 11lb (half my body weight)
● I overhauled the whole family's diet. Cut all sugar and most carbs (only having porridge oats and brown rice as carbs). Stopped buying all processed food. Meals are 1/3 lean protein 2/3 veg. This was for everyone, not just me and DH (who's also dieting)
1st February 2018
● 15st 10lb. BMI 39 - no longer morbidly obese.
● Started walking the dog every morning when youngest was at nursery. Short walks at first. Worked up to 90 minutes daily dog walk.
_1st March 2018
● 15st 3lb, BMI 38 (I had also been on holiday during Feb)
● I set myself the challenge of "100 Miles in March". My aim was to dog walk 3-4 miles every day, which took me 60-90 minutes did was done after dropping youngest at school/nursery.
● Result: the challenge was motivation enough to get me to go out every single day. Even when it was chucking it Fownhope with rain. I came to love the "me time" walking gave me away from being a mum. I walked 110 miles in March
1st April 2018
● 14 st 6lb. BMI 36
● Started Couch 2 5K on 3rd April. I struggled to do the 60 second runs in the first week.
● Because I was used to going out with the dog every day, I decided to do the C25K run every day instead of my walk. I still take the dog (lead attached to a belt). So I now run every day.
28th April 2018 (today)
● 13st 8lb. BMI 33. Size 16 (and occasionally 14)
● 4st 1lb loss. Over half way to target weight.
● Tomorrow I start the final week of C25K and will run for 30 minutes non-stop. I've been running 28 minutes non-stop for the last 3 days so I know I can do it.
● 28 minutes running plus 5 minutes warm up and cool down walks cover about 4.8k. So I am very close to my whole "run" covering 5k - something I would never though I was capable of doing 2 months ago (or even 1 month ago).
Challenge for May: "Run 5k Every Day" I hope to increase my run to 40 minutes and so cover 5k at jogging pace.
My plan was to reach target weight by Christmas. I think I may actually hit target around September.
The change to our eating habits is a forever change. I think I may become a runner long-term. I love it, it's free to do, I can do it anytime I have a spare hour and it gives me some solitude and time away from our busy household of 6.
