Ok so in the past year I've gained 1 stone and 11 pounds.
I've recently had surgery which resulted in me being laid on the sofa shovelling in chocolate, cake, chicken nuggets, pizza and any other bad food i could find at all hours of the day. I can now see the notice in my body and I'm just getting bigger.
I've always liked my legs but even they're getting chunkier now.
What works for you?! I need to ease myself in with the exercise as I'm still getting my energy levels back since surgery/recovery but what is the best road to go down with food?
I need to cut out the chocolate etc I know but comfort eating is my finest sport!

Personally, what works for me is using My Fitness Pal to log food and do a calorie based approach. I like this because:

  • no food is out of bounds or cut out completely
  • you can gain 'credit' for food by doing exercise
  • you can track and log your progress over time
  • it stops me from mindlessly snacking and eating huge portions, both big problems for me.

I also take the approach of giving myself fewer calories Mon-Thurs and a lot more leeway at the weekends, so I always have something to look forward to.

The main downside is you do need to be quite obsessive about logging everything you eat and being as accurate as possible.

My grandmother always said this, "Food is NOT your friend. Don't deal with your emotions by shoving food in your face." Food is our fuel, and when you abuse it, you get fat. There's just no other way around it. Eating out of boredom is also very detrimental. Start reading, drawing, walking, WHATEVER, but don't use eating as a way to pass the time. Also, if you don't but all that garbage food, you can't eat it, so stop buying it!!
