Hi, I have gotten to the biggest I have ever been. I'm 5foot 9 and I Weighed 13stone 13. I do have a large frame and alot of muscle mass genetically. So 12 stone makes me a size 12 usually and slim.

Usually when I try lose weight (March was last time for instance) if I am determined and stick to it the weight comes off quickly and easily usually about 7lbs the first week then 3 or 4lb after.

So five weeks ago I started dieting.I have completely cut out all refined sugar. White bread, pasta etc. I'm eating 1400 calories a day. Have cut out fizzy juice and tea and just drinking loads of water and eating really healthy with lower carbs than normal. Iv been doing a bootcamp for an hour once a week. Struggle to fit anything else in but going to need to look into this clearly.

Anyway I have only lost 4lbs in five weeks when usually I'd of lose probably over a stone by now I have a holiday in five weeks and need to lose weight.

Iv been eating the following usually -
2x poached egg on brown thins
Lean turkey/cottage cheese, salad no dressing, small brown rice or baked potato.
Dinner - homemade chilli or something homemade that's healthy with veg etc.

Snacks if I need them will be fruit or cucumber /pepper slices and cottage cheese or a few almonds etc.

Does anyone know why the weight won't budge?

Did you measure yourself? I sometimes find the scales don't move but my clothes feel looser. I gain lots of muscle in my legs and lose of my boobs but I'm around the same weight just a better shape.

Get your thyroid and cortisol levels checked. I am admittedly not a dieter, but I have an overweight teenage son whose weight just doesn't shift, regardless of effort. He has raised cortisol levels. Coritisol is raised on account of stress and can contribute to increased weight and difficulty with shifting that extra weight.

A cortisol test is complex. It's a urine test but requires two lots done separately over a 24 hour period and basically the two samples are compared. I had it done for my son privately, ordered by a private endocrinologist. The NHS will probably not offer a cortisol test, but you could try and ask to be referred to an endocrinologist on the NHS who could then order a cortisol test. But you can get your regular GP to check your thyroid function and you should probably have this done first and foremost. You could be a bit under active.

Thanks for reply. i was measured at curves I forgot iv been going there about once a week too but going to go for tonight and for next two days too so will ask them to measure me. I can see the weight loss in my tummy as my jeans etc aren't as tight which is good but still not much for how good I feel iv been.

iv been wondering if 1400 calories is maybe too low for me and if I should maybe increase them slightly and see if that helps but then I'd struggle to fill that amount of calories healthily.

I'm 30 in a few weeks too so maybe my body's just not going to lose weight as easily.

Horsewalker it's really funny you say that as I was reading an article on thyroid this morning and do have few symptoms but thought it was maybe me being a hypochondriac (which I am prone to being some times)

I'm struggling to lose weight, been feeling shattered, can feel really energyless some days which makes me feel down, really badly cracked heels which I read can be a symptom and low body temp of 34.5 unless I'm ill.

Can I jump on too and ask what was recommended for your son please and whether the treatment helped him shift weight more easily?
I think I might be suffering too as on 1200-1300 a day and am lucky if I lose a lb a week when previously I would have lost several.

Iv spoken to my sister in law and we are going to start slimming world next Tuesday and if I still don't shift weight il go to the doctor.

what are you drinking?

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 28/08/2015 08:46

Just water at least 1.5litres a day. Very rarely a coke zero. Like 3 cans over the five week's. I'm off alcohol completely just now until 3rd October when it's my cousins leaving night. Yesterday I religiously logged on mfp and stuck to 1200 calories. went to curves and had a 45 minutes walk most of it carrying my two year old and I am half a pound lighter than yesterday this morning. So will see how it goes till Tuesday doing this as my sil wants me to start slimming world although I'm not too keen as I think it seems complicated and too fussy.

Slimming world isn't complicated at all... But you wouldn't be eating much differently than you are now, so I'm not really sure how it would benefit you.

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 28/08/2015 10:08

Yeah that's what my husband said this morning that it seems pointless when I'm already eating healthy. Il wait till Tuesday and see what my weight is. Getting measured tonight at half five at the gym so looking forward to seeing the results.

Anaemia also stalls weight loss.
