sally you can have all the lovely cheese and pate though.
I seem to be snacking on cheese at the moment which is probably not a good thing.

sally - the odd thing about cheese is that in the original Atkins book (1972) there was NO resctriction on cheese. Most hard cheeses have no carbs or less than 1%. General consensus is that it was changed as a sop to the low-fat brigade and also as a realisation that calories do count to a certain extent though not usually in the earliest stages. Once you've lost most of your weight it is a good idea to curb your fat intake a little as you slowly increase the good carbs. So I really wouldn't worry too much at this stage. Isn't it weird to be happy about feeling like sh*t? "I feel awful...hurray I must be in ketosis!

Crotchety · 10/11/2006 11:38

Out of interest does anyone know exactly why weight fluctuates so much from day to day? I know I can't have put on 3 pounds since yesterday! Not TOM or anything either...

Well I'm braced for a bit of a carby couple of days actually - soon I'm off to see someone for lunch at her house and I'm not going to say ooh I'm on a low carb diet actually - seems so rude somehow. And tomorrow meeting friends in gastro-type pub for dinner...ditto, although sometimes I find you can get away with low-carbery on the quiet!

Don't get this feeling awful in Ketosis thing - I always feel less bloated, more full of energy and generally better about myself.
Feeling positive, and haven't weighed my froggy self today. I'm gonna hold off until Monday.
Had thinly sliced courgette, sp onions and red peppers w/ pesto tonight, with some ham. Yummy.

Joelallie, don't think this is the last we'll be hearing from Sam. What do you think ? Surely there'll be more of a kerfuffle than this ????

Dunno Strawb. I've never used the stix. Is it just because you've just eaten and they'd show the right colour after an hour or two? Anyway I've had a lovely time waving the wagon off into the distance this weekend - lemon torte, white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake, mashed potato, quiche, carrot cake...Back on track tomorrow though, when I'll be feeling ravenous all day and really really tired! Actually given the way certain people round here get away with things, it would only be fair if I lost 5lb as a result...

I know where you are both coming from. I didn't so much fall off the wagon this weekend, as jumped off. I'm not going to weigh myself tomorrow as a result - it would only demotivate me (again). However, I had a great night out with the girls and fell down some steps that my drunken eyes had failed to see!

Frog - my evening meals haven't really changed from when I was doing Atkins. Breakfasts are different - porridge with a little bit of fructose. And lunches are mainly couscous salad/chickpea salad type of affair. Eating a bit more fruit too but not that much as I've never been a big lover of the stuff.

Strawb, if you're going to use ketostix then just use them once a day, in the evening. Apparently thats when you produce the most ketones. You might have had a negative result because you were so well hydrated - had you drank a lot of water?
