Why can't I lose weight?

I eat well, cook everything, lots veg, fish, and just can't seem to budge hardly a pound. I go to the gym twice a week, weights, and a bit runnimg/cross trainer/ rower etc, and it makes no difference.
I never miss breakfast, drink water, don't especially overindulge, have the odd choccie bar. What am I doing wrong?
I thought about joining weight watchers or slim world. Which would be the best for me, or any better advice? thanks so much.....

How much do you need to lose? Do you overdo the potatoes or bread? Or cheese? Portion control might be the answer...

I'm 11 3/4 stone. I don't eat much cheese or loads spuds, and not massive dinners, no puds. I like a cup of tea, and just bought some sweetners.I run around all day after the children too. My only vice is a small bar choc (each day- sorry!) like a penguin. ...

I am looking currently trying to lose weight and intend to add in as much exercises as possible (what i can fit in) I have been getting loads of advice from my sister who is now a lovely size 10 (loat her weight from size 14/16 after 4 children) She told me the only way you will ever see physical difference is by doing at least an hour of exercise a day. Be it a walk/aerobics/yoga/gym anything that gets you moving. (and eating the best you can) its only now she goes twice a wk and now enjoys the odd extra portions.
I am staring tomorrow by going for a long walk and on the days i dont go for a walk i will be dancing to music in the front room! (cant afford the gym so will make up my own) plus housework work out. I am 5'1 and 11.1Ib so gt a bit to go yet.

Dunnyjo, how long did it take you sister to get to size 10? How on earth did she manage an hour a day with 4 children? I'm also 11 1 and 5 4, have started my journey to lose the lard!!

hello my sister lost the weight in a year and did exercises when children at school or home. She started of walking the dog twice a day to going to the gym when dh came home, yoga every morning. I dont knnow how on earth she did it lol trying to keep the pace up like that. But i do see it as a insentive to try my self.
I'd also like to know how she found that switch to switch herself on the motivation mode as i find that v. difficult
She told me that losing some weight was enough to keep her wanting to lose more and when she finally saw the difference from exercises there was no holding her back.
Right i am off to find that switch!

How tall are you tigi? 11 3/4 might not be far off your ideal weight if you are tall.

tigi · 14/08/2006 17:20

i walk up and down to school every day/ six journeys in all- i should be like a rake!
i wondered if mine won't shift because i'm eating the wrong foods together - that food combining diet - does anyone think this possible. I have stopped bread (not that i had much- sarnies) and noticed less bloating.

Tigi: when you walk to school what pace are you walking at? in order to lose weight/fat burn you have to walk quite fast... so feel a sweat coming on and feel flushed..(glamorous I know)you must eat though don't starve yourself as the metabolism slows down and when you do eat the body stores the fat/calories as it thinks it's been deprived due to starving and holds onto any fat instead of using it as energy!!
