Well done Zalen, it must feel good to be properly in the 12s. And well done arty. I'm not at all jealous

I have decided not to weigh myself for a few days as I think it'll demotivate me if I have put on a lot. Today has been a very good day. I really enjoyed my food. I had two ham salad tortilla wraps for lunch and a beef stirfry for tea with so much flavour. I made four portions so I will have a nice lunch tomorrow. Best of all it's at 1100 cals so I can have a snack later if I feel hungry.

cookieowner · 05/02/2014 11:04

Zalen, I do still have plenty to lose. I am aiming for 5 stone overall and have lost 3 stone 2 so a way to go, since November I ve hardly lost any due to holidays, birthdays and Christmas
I really want to get down to below the 10 stone mark as seem to have been stuck where I am for far too long now!

womblesofwestminster · 05/02/2014 13:20

Hi guys. I'm setting up shop here if that's okay. I couldn't find a low-gi forum. Is anyone eating low-gi here?

Because I exercise quite intensely 4 x per week, I find that my appetite is atrocious. So I've recently switched to consuming only low-gi foods and it's working a dream!

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 05/02/2014 14:06

Welcome wombles. I've lost about 59 lbs just doing a low calorie diet. When I started I looked into different diets but thought low gi looked too difficult to fit into my lifestyle. I wanted to lose weight without dh and my two dds noticing and so low cal was the easiest to do. At the time dd2 was living off pasta and white bread so I had to cut down on portions.

How long have you been doing it? I'm glad you're finding it easy. What sort of things do you eat ?

I have had a good 3 days now, I might pluck up the courage to weigh myself tomorrow. I just had a lovely spicy chicken salad. Unfortunately I ate two chocolate chip cookies today. What a waste of 200 cals.

womblesofwestminster · 05/02/2014 14:20

Hi JD's future wife  (FYI I'm Benedict Cumberbatch's future wife, but that seemed too long for a username).

I've been eating low-gi for a week now. Weight is dropping off. I've been getting recipes online and giving them a whirl. A lot of them are also suitable for DH and the DCs. I've been eating stuff like: porridge, beef stew, chicken curry (with brown rice), stir fries, casseroles. Good hearty stuff with fruit for snacks. I'm certainly getting my five a day now lol.

How's the low-cal lifestyle going? I lived low-cal for years, and it does indeed work, but it left me feeling hungry and deprived, and majorily craving choc and pizza.

Why don't you want your DH to notice you're dieting?

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 05/02/2014 15:17

Ooh I have only seen the third series of Sherlock so I have only recently 'got' the attraction with Benedict. I had a happy couple of hours last week finding him on YouTube Grin

Your diet doesn't sound too different to mine but I can't get anyone here to eat anything other than white rice, bread or pasta. I find low calorie generally ok as long as I don't waste 500 cals on snacks. I mainly live off curries, casseroles, omelettes, salads, fajitas, jacket potatoes, small portions of pizza, soup and a piece of meat or fish with lots and lots of vegetables. I have cut down on carbs so fill myself up with vegetables like peppers, aubergines, mushrooms, courgettes. I often do different meals to dds and then dh gets the same as me but with extra carbs. When I first lost weight dh did too and he couldn't work out why!

I never found it easy to talk to anyone about my weight, so it wasn't just dh. I think it's because I had years of my mum, brother and dad telling me I was a fat teenager (I wasn't really) and I rebelled by eating more. Also I am not very good at talking about my weaknesses and it was definitely something I saw as a failing. When I started I think part of me thought I'd fail. I also didn't want dds to be body conscious and to grow up with a mum always on a diet so it seemed easier to not discuss it with dh in front of them. Some of dd1s friends (who are 5/6) already say they're fat or have fat legs or a fat tummy. Annoyingly, the one thing I get asked the most by my mum friends is how I lost the weight and I feel uncomfortable talking about it especially in front of dds.

I think dh noticed I'd lost weight after about 3 stone!

Zalen · 05/02/2014 16:03

Hi Wombles.

If you two have laid claim to Johnny Depp and Benedict Cumberbatch then I have dibs on Tom Hiddleston Grin

I'm doing low calorie too, with a bit of slimfast thrown in. I haven't been anything like as good as I should be today, I am coming down with my second cold in two weeks which is rather annoying and I've been compensating by eating things I know I shouldn't, including a trip to the office fridge for a kit-kat, a habit I need to nip in the bud as after avoiding them for about 4 months, this is the second one I've had recently Sad

What sort of exercise is it you do Wombles? I take a MMA class 4 times a week and that is generally pretty intensive. An hour of class plus fifteen minutes of either sparring or weapons training after each class. MFP credits me with about 951 calories for all that which in the cold light of day looks a bit high, however when I'm in the middle of class with sweat pouring down my face it looks a lot more reasonable Grin

womblesofwestminster · 05/02/2014 16:16

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife I'm the same re: concerns for DD. My DD is 3 and I never speak about fat, cals, diets or anything of the sort around her.

Can't believe your dh only noticed the weight loss after 3st!! Bad show.

Zalen Another lowcaler. It's a solid diet for sure. Cals in - cals out = cals deficit = weight loss.

How are you guys finding your appetites?

Do you exercise?

Zalen · 05/02/2014 16:39

I'm finding my appetite is not too bad actually, it's only when I'm fed up or frustrated at work that I tend to find myself craving snacks, crisps and the like. Unfortunately I'm spending a lot of time fed up and frustrated at work at the moment!

As far as exercise is concerned I do a total of 5 hours of mixed martial arts each week, some kickboxing, some krav maga, some sparring and a bit of nunchucks, a lot of fitness drills as well, including far too many burpees for my peace of mind Smile

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 05/02/2014 17:31

The most surprising thing about my diet is that I have learnt that I don't actually have a big appetite and I am quite happy on fairly small portions. I didn't eat because I was hungry but because it was there. If you put a load of food in front of me I just eat it. Last week I was chopping carrots for dds and 4 friends and I ate the lot for no reason. I have much more willpower now so have changed my behaviour considerably.

I haven't been exercising because I had a knee injury but I've been having physio and it's better so I might join a gym (again). I tried 30 day shred once but couldn't keep up and it hurt my knee.

I'm not too bothered about dh not noticing as I don't think he'd noticed how big I was to begin with. Sad cliche alert but he loved me for who I was. but I may have ranted about him a lot at the time. Thank you thread giving me a place to slag him off!

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 05/02/2014 17:34

Zalen do your work just provide you with food? I couldn't cope with that. In fact I put on a lot of weight after dd2 because my job had a canteen and Starbucks in the building. I blame cappuccinos for a lot of my weight gain!

Zalen · 06/02/2014 09:17

Only the kit-kats are provided free, but they used to provide cans of coke, fanta, sprite and the like as well along with those little packets of two biscuits. I put on quite a bit of weight when I started working here Sad. Now I'm starting to exercise a little self-control.

Yesterday was bad because I'm annoyed that I've got another cold, the last 18 months I've been unusually healthy as far as coughs and colds go then I've had four since November. Add to that today is my last day on this project, I don't know what I'll be working on next week and the bit I've been working on this week will not work no matter what I try and you have a very frustrated Zalen who is trying hard not to turn to her old ways of comfort eating everything in sight!

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 06/02/2014 16:32

Zalen sorry to hear work isn't going well and you've got another cold. Just think how pleased you'll be if you can end the day without comfort eating.

I had a massive unexpected sausage lunch (kids leftovers) and so dinner will have to be rabbit food salad to not go over my calories for today. I normally love salads but haven't been shopping for a few days so it won't have much variety. Dh is going out tonight so luckily I don't have to cook for him. It's sad but I'm so looking forward to an early night or a long bath.

cookieowner · 07/02/2014 11:29

I've lost another pound so 10 8 now, pleased but worried my trip away(starting today) will not help , I'm going somewhere that doesn't really do healthy options as well!
Hope you have a good and healthy weekend

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 07/02/2014 13:46

Enjoy your trip. I am hopeless in situations without a healthy option. I know I should eat small portions or leave food on a plate but I can't.

Well done for the loss. I find that when I put on a couple of lbs it usually goes quickly. For example I finally weighed myself today and I am down .9lbs in 11 days. I'm fairly certain I would've gained last week so I must've lost a couple of pounds since Monday. Hopefully any gain you make will be off within a few days.

I hope everyone else is having a good week, it's nearly the weekend. Smile

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 10/02/2014 11:00

Hello everyone. By some miracle I lost 1.2 lbs over the weekend so I am 129.9lbs. Just another 4lbs to be in the 8s. I can't believe it. I ate well at the weekend (cottage pie, tuna fillet, salad) but had a cupcake and some biscuits at a child's party on Saturday so I expected to stay the same.

Ihope everyone else has had a good weekend and a good weigh if Monday is your weigh day.

artyanklet · 10/02/2014 15:35

Well done Johnny, I have been for my weigh in and thankfully its a loss all be it small! .300g, so glad I am still going in the right direction even if slowly!

Good luck to everyone else

Zalen · 11/02/2014 09:07

Well done everyone, cookie I hope everything goes well on your trip and you manage to find some reasonably healthy options or at least some not particularly unhealthy options.

Weighed in yesterday morning at 12st 9.4, that takes me to 177.4 lb and under 180 lb for the first time in far too long.

Good luck everyone for the coming week.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 11/02/2014 11:05

Wow, good losses. Well done.

I joined a gym yesterday, just need to make an appointment with someone to show me the equipment. I also packed a swimming bag with swimming costume, towel and locker money so that on the rare occasions that dh comes home from work eat a reasonable time I can just go swimming without spending half an hour looking for my swimming costume. Just need to buy some shampoo and conditioner. I have avoided exercise for too long.

Zalen · 11/02/2014 15:22

Excellent move on joining a gym Johnny. I was a member of a local Ladies only gym for a few years and they were fantastic. It was only a small, local gym and I signed up before they opened. I've let my membership lapse now as my exercise needs have changed but it was a great start to improve my fitness and begin losing some weight. I'd never have dared try the Martial Arts stuff that I love now without the initial fitness gains that I got from my time at Ladyzone.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 11/02/2014 18:23

Joined but not been yet! My task tomorrow is to phone up to book an appointment.

Zalen I hope work is going better this week, do you have a new project, I wouldn't want you to get so bored you start demolishing the kit kat supplies Grin

Zalen · 12/02/2014 11:13

Well, it's 11:10 and I've already joined a new project and been moved off of it again Confused this does not bode well. I hate this in-between time, moved off one project and waiting for another.

On the bright side, they had a tray of cupcakes available in the room containing the team I moved to and I managed to get in and out again without indulging Smile.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 12/02/2014 17:12

Oh dear, I would find that sort of uncertainty stressful, I hope it gets sorted. Well done on the cupcakes, I would not be able to avoid them.

Well I have a gym induction tomorrow which I'm actually excited about. I haven't been to a gym for about 15 years but for the first time ever I am not dreading being weighed, in fact I am looking forward to that bit.

cookieowner · 13/02/2014 09:42

Well done on the weight losses everyone. Johnny you have done so so well to lose so much since the start of this thread.
I had a good weekend but it was marred by a family crisis which I have been busy with for the past 2 days and had to stay away from home again for, so more stress trying to find decent food choices.
However I am home now and have just got to eat well from now on because im not losing enough to keep me motivated, all that's happening is I'm losing one pound then going away putting it back on, then losing it the next week
I am not away now for 2 weeks but then that's a whole week of eating out ??
Maybe I just go away too much! Just a lot of things going on at the moment
After the first week of march I have nothing planned til September, so I am pinning all my hopes on going for it then and losing the remaining 22 pounds

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 13/02/2014 14:20

Cookie, sorry to hear about your crisis, I hope everyone is ok.

I know it's hard to get motivated when you're yo yoing like that. When I look at my weight loss it was an average of 2lbs a month from July to December last year so lots of 1 up 1 downs but with a very slow downward trend. At times I did find it frustrating / boring / depressing but if I hadn't lost every little 1lb I'd gained I'd probably be a stone heavier by now and you would probably be the same. I think I see those periods as a practise at maintaining and so still an achievement.

I have had my gym induction. I'm focusing on toning and building strength in my legs as they need it due to various injuries. I was very disappointed to not be weighed or have my fat measured. The gym lady asked how much I weighed and I very casually said 'oh something like nine or nine and a half stone' as if I haven't been obsessed with every ounce for the last year and a half!

Anyway I quite enjoyed it. She put me on low settings for most things and I increased them. I didn't work my hardest because I was (wrongly) convinced she'd give me some impossible task so I am looking forward to going back next week and really pushing myself.

A friend laughed at my trainers - last worn at the gym in 1999! Afterwards I popped into sainsburys to buy a second pair of gym trousers and top. It'll be hard to go back next week with dds home from school but I'll pack a bag in case dh comes home from work early.
