low fat Vs Calorie counting

I usually do low fat and it seems to work ok for me. But hit a blip then started eating again, so decided to do slim fast but substitute some stuff for my own low calorie foods!

Some of the food I am eating isnt low fat but in my calorie limit..is that ok?

Will I loose weight faster if I do both together?

so, given your very genuine question Smile, my thoughts are:

ENERGY IN, ENERGY OUT .... to lose weight, energy in must be less than energy out

So, the answer to your qeustion is, Yes, that is ok

Auntymandy · 10/05/2006 06:29

I had a very unhealthy tea last night but it was under 600 calories!!!

find it hard when fruit juice is counted as in low fat you can drink as much as you like really!

should I combine the too? only eat low fat foods up to 1200c a day?

To lose weight faster, in my experience, exercise in any manner that is possible to you

This will help you increase your ENERGY OUT

Then by eating low fat, which you are doing (which in itself, means lower in calorie than higher fat foods), you will decrease your ENERGY IN

am i making sense? gosh, i am tired - 2 under 2, and up at all hours

oh, to answer your question ...

yes, fruit juice is low in fat, but high in calories and low in fibre

the trick (in my opinion), which you have already cottoned on to, is to limit your total daily calorie count to X (you have chosen 1200, which is low, and may be hard to maintain - 1500 would be easier)

the second step then is to try to make the 1200 or 1500 calorie count - the easiest way to do this is to chose low fat foods, because typically, this will allow you to eat more (because low fat foods have less calories) and therefore feel more "full"

of course, this only works if you also choose foods low in sugar - chosing low fat foods which are high in sugar just takes your calorie intake up again

so, 1. choose your total calorie limit per day, and then, 2. try to choose low fat foods which do not have added sugar

am off to bed now AM - happy to help out with the advice if you find it useful - lost 25 kg through eating healthily and have kept it off for 10 years and through 2 pregnancies - have also run a weight loss support group for 2 years (although not now because of the babies) - my advice might be a little "out of date" but i hope it helps

Auntymandy · 10/05/2006 06:47

enjoy your sleep!
thanks for advice!
