10,000 steps a day - how long does it take you?

been trying to do 10,000 steps every day like they say. I just don't have the time, it takes me 2-3 hours or something must be wrong with my pedometer. How long does it take you? Anyone? tried counting as I go but loose track or bump into someone so loose count. I can't spare more than an hour a day and that doesn't seem anywhere near 10,000 steps.

How long does it take you?

An active day,but then i walk everywhere so 10,000 is an average

MissChief · 06/05/2006 12:14

isnt that c. 6 miles? so that wd be about 2 hrs..
can't you build it into yr life instead of trying to fit it in? walk, not car, stairs not lift etc. sorry, i know thuis is obvious stuff but it does work

I can walk 2.5 miles uphill (moderate to steep grade) in about 40 minutes. BUT I've been doing it a while.

my pedometers must be useless I walk to school and back x2, hoover the entire house most days, run errands most days but find I'm often in a small area of the house namely the kitchen for the greater part of the day so step very little then. So trying to do the 10,000 steps has not been easy. will try the 6 miles and see how long that takes each day.

Anyone else do 10,000 steps a day?

I find 10000 steps a day really difficult!
Even though I lead an active life - I have no idea why I never seem to get beyond 6000 - really annoying!!

I can only hope it is because my pedometer counts differently to everybody elses :o

Hi, I've been doing at least 10,000 steps a day for a while. I do think, bummer, your pedometer sounds like it's faulty - 10k steps is 5 miles and equates to approx 1 hr 40 mins walking. After going through several cheap ones, I've invested in a very good, reliable pedometer. I'd be happy to give you the name if you're interested.

TaiTai · 07/05/2006 21:14

PS: I was told that it should take about 1hr 40mins from a personal trainer. I would say from personal experience that figure seems about right. Certainly not 3 hrs of continuous walking!

busybusybee · 07/05/2006 21:44

hi TaiTai I would love to know what pedometer you have!

I thought mine was going to be great (a silva one) but in reality its a pain because I never get anywhere near 10000 and then I feel a failure

TaiTai · 07/05/2006 23:08

Hi Busybee,

It's a Digi Walker SW-700. Mine measures in kms but you can get an otherwise identical model that measures in miles. I think it was about £22. It also tells you calories and distance.

HTH.

TT

busybusybee · 07/05/2006 23:17

Thanks taitai - Ill investigate!

Stiletto · 08/05/2006 13:06

You're welcome, busybusy bee. And now, just for you, I'll shut up. Grin

Stiletto · 08/05/2006 13:25

Sorry, I changed my name (from TaiTai) as I wanted to join a weightloss thread anon, but I screwed up and posted with my new name instead. Blush

Hope the pedometer works for you.

bummer · 09/05/2006 11:09

thanks stilleto/taitai, know what you mean about trying to be anonymous with the weight thread. I have been looking and will keep looking while I try walking 5 miles for 1 hr 40min that's most helpful.

I got pedometer recently and was amazed that I did over 17,000 both days I wore it, running around like a crazy woman.

dinny · 14/05/2006 14:29

TaiTai, my sister just bought me that model too Smile

UglySister · 17/05/2006 10:21

I have to add, the 10000 steps thing does work. I did it for a few weeks and my dress size plummeted. Much better than any diet!
