Does BMI matter?

Just wondered what everyone thought? I have a BMI of 17.5 which is on the low side from what I gather. However I don't feel particularly slim or toned and am still doing a lot of exercise to try and look how I would like to look. I am only 5ft 3 so quite small and weigh 7st 1lb and I feel like if I weighed anymore I would look overweight. I obviously dont want to damage my health so wondered whether I actually need to be concerned by this? Thanks v much

Depends. Sometimes it's meaningless, sometimes a useful tool. For example, I weigh just over a stone more than you and am the same height. I am pretty slim (size 8) and really quite fit. If I lost any weight I'd be underweight.

At 5 ft 3 and 7 stone [ oh and a lb! ] you are underweight, so instead of doing 'lots of exercise ' you should be concentrating on WHY you feel overweight. When you are not and in no danger of it for several more stone at least.

I feel there is more to this than a mere BMI question.
