A new thread for those of us who started in January 2012 and anyone starting now. Everyone welcome for support, encouragement and occasional arse kicking :)

Woohoo! Just finished W9D3 Grin Grin Grin Grin
I really wouldn't have believed at the beginning (which, I'm not quite sure, was actually about 13 weeks ago) that I could do this. I didn't even stop quite at the end of the 30 min because I wasn't very near home, so according to my very approximate measurements using Google Earth, I actually did 5.2K this evening. Is there a smug smiley?
But I really would say to anyone just starting out, it really does work and you can do it. Just don't be tempted to overdo it the first few weeks. Or conversely, it does get easier, and you will make progress!

battyfum · 01/02/2013 20:46

That is fantastic Sarah, well done!!! Grin

frenchfancy · 01/02/2013 21:23

Well done Sarah for finishing W9 and battyfum (great name) for finishing Wk1.

So which is harder WK9 or WK1? I'm getting the impression that it might be Wk1. (I hope so anyway)

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 01/02/2013 21:38

W1... actually I think it's W5 that is hardest. But it's more a mental thing than physical because the programme really does ease you through it.

MegBusset · 01/02/2013 21:55

Well done Sarah and Batty :)

I am using the ZenLabs 10k trainer; not starting from week 1 because I have done weeks 1-8 already while training for the 5k but picking up halfway through.

5madthings · 01/02/2013 21:59

I wonder if I should just do that rather than the couch to 5k. I have looked at the zenlabs ones.

MegBusset · 01/02/2013 22:01

Yep the Zenlabs 10k one will take you all the way through the programme. It technically takes 14 weeks, should just about be doable by the end of May!

5madthings · 01/02/2013 22:06

Yres 14 weeks is doable there are 16 weeks till the run so that would be just right :)

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 01/02/2013 22:15

10K... my, that has wiped the smile off my face! Go for it Meg!

5madthings · 01/02/2013 22:18

Sarah 10k may kill me but meg and I are signed up for a 10k at the end of may, fools that we are!

Fab name BTW Sarah all the best people have that name Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 01/02/2013 22:51

Well done SarahWithAFringeOnTop! Thanks 10k is very doable!!

You'll be fine MegBusset I was surprised at how easy increasing distance/time was. My furthest is 8.5 miles now and I enjoyed every second :)

well done Sarahwithafringeontop!!

You mentioned about measuring distances - has anyone used this pedometer It is really handy. Put in your postcode to get your location zoomed in on, change the draw route setting to manually, then you double click on your start point and double click around the map to draw your route.

It's great for working out routes that are partly off road, etc, that gmaps won't normally measure. Plus if you create an account, you can save/share your routes too. this is my 3 mile route!

jchocchip · 02/02/2013 07:43

parkrunday! Must beat 47.07 :)

Chopstheduck · 02/02/2013 07:56

Good luck jchocchip!

SamuelWestsMistress · 02/02/2013 10:29

I was brutally abused by some wine last night. I have a feeling that today is going to be a tough one!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/02/2013 11:00

I've tried several websites Chopstheduck but because I run in the forest you can't see the paths and so it's almost impossible to plan a route, will have a look at that one though.

Good luck jchocchip! We have a park run in the next town over starting 23rd Feb :)

Been for my usual Saturday morning jaunt, was tough at one point but when you're with others you just have to get on with it, so that was good. Need to get my bum in the shower now and start my day! dh and kids are so chilled when I get in I just sit down with them and we don't get going til late :(

Chopstheduck · 02/02/2013 11:15

swinley forest near me where I go mountain biking, the trails actually do appear on my link, but I think it would be tricky working out exactly which trail i have been following - I always seem to lose all sense of direction once I get in there!

jchocchip · 02/02/2013 13:30

46.35! Another pb and even faster than whitstable Grin I love parkrun. I came last today as my 82 yr old friend was marshalling due to ice. Friendly coffee afterwards. I know I'm really slow but still have 6 stone (ish) to lose and I am enjoying getting faster and fitter..

MegBusset · 02/02/2013 15:40

That's great Jchocchip!

Did my first 10k training run today (week 9 of C210k). Started off sunny, then had rain followed by hail, snow, driving sleet and finally sun again! My legs were an interesting shade of purple afterwards!

jchocchip · 02/02/2013 17:07

Hurray for Sarah yesterday Wine (I'm on my phone so please forgive me being self absorbed earlier).
I'm well impressed that some of you are going for the 10k!
Hope we have seen the back of the snow and now the lighter evenings are on the way we should all be able to get more runs in :)

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 02/02/2013 18:04

Well done Jchocchip! You are tempting me with these parkruns... there isn't one very convenient for me but I'm beginning to think it might be worth a bit off effort to get to one...

Meg, ouch, that doesn't sound like much fun, especially the hail Shock Hope you had a Brew afterwards to warm up!

5madthings · 02/02/2013 18:24

Well done meg the weather has been most odd here today, sunshine one minute and hail the next, you are braver than me going out in it!

MegBusset · 02/02/2013 19:14

Well it was dry when I set off, by the time the hail started it was too late to turn back. I looked like a snowman with the hailstones all stuck to my front!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/02/2013 20:30

It snowed before I went out but lucky it was dry while we were out, had very wet feet though :(

OP posts:
Chopstheduck · 03/02/2013 07:05

really hoping it doesn't snow again here, but very well done to those who made it out in it!

I went again yesterday. Did day one of week 5, and at the end I just didn't want to stop and carried on til the end of the podcast! 11 minutes, new personal best! Grin

I need some sort of exercise today and I'm not even sore, but I think I should probably resist the urge to go running again. Probably going to do a 16k bike ride instead. I need to burn some calories - it's the superbowl tonight and I'm planning some game food!
