I have been overweight for quite a long time. Im a size 16. I have been trying on and off for years to try and lose weight. Ive thought for ages that actually my diet is pretty good, however, I still could never lose weight even when I upped my exercise. Many of my friends have done slimming world and lost lots of weight so i decided to go for it as I am obviously doing something wrong. The 1st week i stuck to it 100% and lost no weight...my sw consultant checked over my food diary and said it was excellent. The 2nd week I again stuck to it 100% and didnt feel like Id lost any weight but to my surprise I lost 2.5lb although oddly felt like id gained weight. Missed my 3rd week weigh in and am due one tomorrow but I know Ive not lost anything...if nything Ive gained. Since starting this diet Ive had horrendous stomach cramps, non stop wind, my stomach is sticking out a mile and my face is now covered in spots. Im utterly miserable and I just dont know what Im doing wrong. Please help :(

woahthere - I low-carb and eat chocolate and drink wine! Just good, dark choc, red wine, and not a lot of it Smile.

This SW stuff does seem terribly complicated, tbh. And you know that calorie counting just plain doesn't work for lots of people, right?

(plus my skin cleared up...Wink)

I don't know about slimming world but I would say that whats going wrong is:

a) nuts and seeds - very calorific - they are healthy but need to weigh them, 25g a day enough

b) fruit doesn't help weight loss - you ate a lot that day......

c) Jaffa cakes - allowed on the plan but empty calories, and not helpful when losing weight

I eat tons of fruit and lost 51/2 stone in a year on SW.

a typical day is along these lines. I dont really do small portions either Blush

Breakfast:1 or 2 Bananas/fresh cut pineapple/strawbs/rasps and 0% Total Fat Free Greek Yogurt or 2 x Weetabix and sliced banana.

Mid morning snack: of fruit usually pear/apple/banana or cubed fresh pineapple. Sometimes a Muller light too

Lunch: Omelette with peppers, onions, mushrooms. On a red day I may add ham. On a green day I will have baked beans or tinned spaghetti (whole tin Blush) Followed by fruit or a muller light .

Mid afternoon snack: More fruit

Evening Meal: Green: SW wedges, poached eggs X 2 another tin of baked beans or SW Vegetble chilli with rice. Muller light and or fruit if still hungry

Supper: Magic pancakes and summer fruits with 0% Total Fat Free Yogurt or Weetabix

Treat of the day: chocolate bar within syns. Usually a curly wurly or Twirl depending on amount of spare syns and if I am saving a few for Saturday night booze up.

10 syns a day, I reckon. And make sure you are doing the superfree food properly. That salad is 6 syns I think (according to the website). I am back on slimming world and it worked brilliantly until I started troughing again

SW never worked for me and I never knew why. I have now learnt that I have an addiction and the no restrictions of SW was an issue for me.

I think Slimming World does a great job for some people but it's a money making concern designed to keep you going back. I joined last week and after sticking to their plan, upping my exercise but spending the week feeling bloated and obsessing about food, I found I'd put on nearly 2 lbs. Lets face it, the only way to lose weight is to start eating more sensibly and get the psychological aspects of food and eating under control. That isn't going to happen while you are counting syns is it? It's interesting that the SW website has no forum for discussion where these aspects of their 'plan' could be raised. I'm going to give it another week and drop out if there's no loss.

I have lost 5 and a half stone with SW and have managed to keep it off for 4 months now, I lost 4 lbs before I joined so am almost 6 stone lighter now! I do extra easy and almost always have 15 syns a day so not sure how it works but it does! I do excercise and eat fruit but not as much as I should. It took me 8 months to lose 5 stone and then the last half has been really slow.

Hope you find something that works as my life is totally changed by my weight loss and it was worth every minute of the denial and hard work!

Hi,i've lost 3 stone at sw..i started off following their plan but then started low carbing...still go to sw class every week to be weighed as i love the class, the support it gives me and seeing my sw friends.

You have to do what's right for you,it's trial and error, not every plan suits every person...good luck

Its definitely the superfree. I had a brilliant week and lost 5 pounds and I was eating loads, but I made sure to have 1/3 superfree with all my meals. For example this week, I've had a bad week on the scales and I've been pretty good, but haven't had enough superfree e.g. usually I'd have pasta with chicken, veg and tinned tomatoes to make own sauce and a bit of pesto , and throw in broccoli, green beans to make up the superfree. But I didn't throw in the green veg last night and just had some green beans. I had a big plate and I was hungry before bed, which I wouldn't be usually.

You need to weigh your he Bs rather than guessing. How many syns were in the gravy and salad dressing. Look up the syns of that M&S salad. You might be surprised.
