and if so, where can i find an eating plan, or a book, on how to follow it? and is it just a short term plan (it doesnt sound terribly healthy....?)

im willing to give low carbing a whirl.

I don't think so, no

I am sort of low carbing - it's 40-40-20 (protein, carbs, fat) but combined with many hours of heavy weights in the gym, don't know if it stands alone as a diet but it's a sort of fat stripping process that shouldn't compromise existing muscle mass, but rather build on it

I think if you google 40-40-20 you might find something, will have a look for you anyway

Alameda · 27/06/2012 20:37

Here 40 40 20 diet search results

body builders know a thing or two about waging war on fat, it might be useful?

I am starting low carbing tomorrow, as a veggie and have started my own thread ( with no response so farSad). I have decided to go the Atkins route and their official website basically has all the info you'll need, it's quite good actually and all freeGrin

uk.atkins.com

SuddenlyMadameGlamour · 27/06/2012 22:08

It has all the rules, plus meal planners, recipes, an online community and you can join for free and get sent a free pack that I've signed up for, and it's all free so far, I've not had to give any credit card deets or anything.

Lots of low carb ideas, recipes etc on www.carblife.co.uk/ - worth trying if you want to find out more.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 27/06/2012 22:16

I've read a lot about this subject. what I do is this - cut out all bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, flour products. Eat lots of meat/fish/green vegetables/a little fruit/nuts/seeds/avocados instead. I didn't fancy all the meat fat/cream that you have to eat on Atkins. My version is just a bit less extreme. Avoid all carbs (which means fruit/dairy etc) after lunchtime. I've stuck by this and lost almost a stone in the last 2 months. I use myfitnesspal.com to log my food (which gives you the carb values of what you're eating). I try to eat around 50 g of carbs per day. I think Atkins is about 20g for the first couple of weeks then increases after that. You can't eat constantly and uncontrollably though - eat 3 meals a day, then small snacks in between (3 or 4 brazil nuts or a couple of slices of ham). If you want to follow a plan, then the South Beach Diet is quite good, as is the Diet Doctor. I read the book why we get fat and what to do about it, which really explains why low-carb is the way to lose weight. Good luck!

BorisJohnsonsHair · 27/06/2012 22:17

Sorry, should have said to cut out sugar as well (the most important!!)

BorisJohnsonsHair · 27/06/2012 22:20

Just remembered that lots of people on here have recommended the India Knight book Idiot Proof diet.

hello, hello.
There are lots of different takes on low carb with lots of different diets about all amounting to a similar thing. Come on over to the Bootcamp threads, we are on week 11. The rules are very simple to follow and we have been having great success. There are also a few veggies on there too Smile

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 28/06/2012 11:11

Yes, come try Bootcamp! I haven't been doing strict Bootcamp as am bf, but have lost 7lbs in 12 days! Have been eating meat, fish, green veg, eggs, full-fat dairy (milk only in tea, though), nuts, seeds and berries. And the Bootcampers are v friendly, supportive and suggest some delicious meals!

ThatVikRinA22 · 28/06/2012 22:11
