How can I keep losing without the ability to exercise?

I was doing exercise 5 mornings a week and starting to really see a difference. I've got 9 weeks to go before my holiday and I am just devastated that I've messed it all up.

is it possible to lose 1-1.5stone in that time without exercising?

weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise and at a rate of 2 pounds a week you should be able to lose that much in 9 weeks. You may have to cut back on your calories a bit to make up for those you are not burning through exercise. You also won't be toning up which would make a difference.

However if you are able to lie on the floor you can probably still do stomach crunches - you can rest your legs on the sofa on similar while lying on the floor to do them. Also if you have hand weights there are still plenty of exercises you can do that don't involve the lower body.

Also if you are on crutches bear in mind that using them burns a lot more calories than walking without them.

Thanks so much. I have hand weights and I'm on a low calorie/low carb diet already, of about 1200 a day. I will just keep going with it.

I'm not surprised about the crutches though, I ache everywhere...

Yeah if you're on 1200 cal already don't drop below that.

Good luck and I hope your ankle gets better soon Smile

I lost 5 stone in 9 months on a 1500 a day diet, with no additional exercise, it is so doable. Good luck!

Thanks Smile I have to snap out of feeling sorry for myself and feeling like such a twat I think!

Don't underestimate how exhausting pain is and how much of an affect it has on your emotions.

Take a deep breathe and think how proud you will be of yourself when (not if) you continue to lose weight with the broken ankle.

itchywitch · 04/06/2012 12:28

On the bright side you will have awesome arms afterwards and its about 1000x harder to use crunches (esp if you are non weight bearing) then it is to walk.

Bad side is that you will loss muscle in your leg but you can get that back.

NorbertDentressangle · 04/06/2012 12:34

Don't underestimate the toning benefits of crutches.

I broke my ankle last year and (although I wasn't on a diet at the time) I swear that my arms, chest, stomach and sides became quite toned as a result.

Providing you don't sit on your backside for 5 weeks you will be burning calories and using muscles.

Rosemary Conley has a chair based workout for less able-bodied, could be worth a google.

MelodyPondering · 05/06/2012 10:43

Thank you all Smile

I'm still feeling pretty shit,I've not been tracking my food since it happened but will start that again today. No more alcohol so that will save me some calories!

Using crutches is such hard work, I'm exhausted just going to the loo, hoping on Friday a lightweight cast will help.

Sigh. Still feeling sorry for myself! I can't even weigh?! Sad

It's not broken! Grin and I lost 2lbs last week so am on track with my diet

Am so happy that I can still lose weight for my honeymoon in 8 weeks.

I can't do high impact exercise so no running/davina/shred but can do the cross trainer, exercise bike and swimming.

I knew there was a reason I was holding on to that gym membership despite hating it! Grin

Oh that's very good news Grin

Well done for losing the 2lb and carry on doing what you're doing!
