Why no water based exercise on Biggest Loser ?

Since watching the "sickest contestant ever" on Biggest Loser USA being told he can only exercise for 20 mins a day, (dropping dead on the treadmill clearly bad publicity), I've been wondering why no swimming or aquarobics?

The land based stuff must be extremely painful on the joints at the start. Do they ever use a pool?

(Disclaimer - I have only seen a couple of episodes.)

Also, how often does St Jillian of the Shred clamber onto victims contestants to act as a human weight ? Shock

Maybe not everyone can swim.
Even if no swimming involved, my non swimming DH is v comfortable in a swimming pool, even if just to dangle a baby.

they do quite a bit of swimming stuff (around the BL World - especially Australia ) but you don't see much of it. St J is always jumping on the contestants - but Michelle (trainer in Autralia) loves to jump on the big sweaty men.

I would guess:

  1. Not everyone can swim
  2. Swimming doesn't use up many calories unless you have good technique, low impact.
  3. V fat people might not feel comfortable being filmed in swimming gear.
