17 day diet

I have just been reading up on this diet. Sounds like it might be worth a try. I like the idea that you only have to do each phase for 17 days - I have a short concentration span and I am easily bored. It also seems to be reasonably balanced.
Has anyone tried it yet?

Ooh, I've heard of this but never actually read about it - what are the phases?

Just working it out myself!
Cycle 1 Accelerate: 17 days (claim you can lose 10-12lb) Eat lean protein (chicken, turkey and fish), veg, 2 probiotic dairy and 2 portions of fruit (must be berries, apples, oranges or grapefruit) . No bread potatoes pasta rice pulses etc and no sugar or alcohol (gulp)
Cycle 2 Activate: 17 days alternating accelerate rules with activate rules.
On activate days you can have shellfish and lean beef and pork and lamb.
Also some "natural starches" potatoes, pulses, porridge oats chickpeas etc in limited quantities.
There are 2 further cycles but I haven't read them yet!

It sounds interesting. I'm looking for something to follow, the 17 days sound like quite manageable chunks, especially as (limited) bread pots etc aren't too far away from the first cycle. Hmm, off for a google...

It was in The Sunday Times 'Style' magazine last weekend (29th May). It was extracted from "The 17 Day Diet" by Mike Moreno (Simon &Shuster £12.99). Can buy it in The Sunday Times bookshop for £10.99 (inc p&p) on 0845 271 2135 and at

thesundaytimesbookshop.co.uk/bookshop

Also shown on The Sunday Times website: thesundaytimes.co.uk/style

And no, I don't work for The Sunday Times Grin - just read about it myself!!

Cheaper from Amazon! I just downloaded it this morning.
He also says to drink Green tea and 8 glasses of water a day (pretty standard advice) and to do 17 minutes of cardio work a day - brisk walking is ok but I did wonder about combining it with the 30 day shred for added oomph.

I have the book but I haven't started reading it yet. I quite like the concept of it, I don't know how religiously I will follow it, maybe just use it for guidance. I'm one of those weirdos who like reading diet books though, even when I don't follow them!

Dr Christian Jessen (he of Supersize vs Superskinny fame) hates the diet though. That's the only "professional" review I've come across.
