Help! I can't lose weight!

I have been trying for about 3 months to lose weight, I am doing all the right things, exercise and eating healthy, about 1200 calories a day. I have lost no weight and have had my thyroid checked to be sure.
When I was pg with ds2 I was very ill and lost lots of weight but when I started eating normally again put on lots of weight and it's like my body is scared to part with the blubber now!
Any ideas how I can kick start it?

Eat more! It'll work, trust me. Just no extra sugar or white crabs...

Haha...carbs!

Also frusli bars are not diet food at all, each one contains around 120 calories, and over 9g of sugar, yet you say one days you might have 2 - they contain sugar, honey, glucose syrup. I'd rather eat dark chocolate as a snack (lower in sugar)! Also your other snacks are all very high carb - crackers & fruit.

Sweetcorn and bananas are fruit and veggies high in carbs as well. Yes healthy ones but it all adds up. Depending on what museli you have could be more added sugar in that too.

I don't think MFP will make much difference as you are already sticking to 1200 calories.

Let us know how you get on!

i tend to agree with what a few others have said, you may actually be under-eating, you are putting your body through alot of exercise, yet at the end of the day what we eat fuels our body, and there is a good chance that your body doesnt want to part with its fat because it is using that to maintain its exersise levels, try drinking lots of water, eating plenty of fruit, swimming and cycling are Great ways to lose weight.
ps, im in the same boat as you, just re-joined slimming world, im same height as you, but your weight now is my target weight... i think the main bit of advice i would give is to wear clothes that fit and are comfy that your happy wearing, otherwise every time you either look in the mirror, or put them on, you will surely feel self concious.
best of luck

Hurrah

That's because it's TRUE

People think that starvation mode is a myth, but they are wrong. If you consume less calories than your body needs to function, on a daily basis without even moving, then it stands to reason that you need that level to even function as a person (disclaimer: diets that put you into ketosis are different as you draw on your fat reserves)

If you are doing a very low calorie diet AND doing a lot more exercise, then you need the calories to function. Eat too little and you'll find that your body just hoards every single ounce of fat you eat.

incidentally, I just weighed myself 3 days in of having a wii fit, and I've lost 1lb. I decided to figure out what 1lb feels like, turns out it's the same weight as a can of beans. If you only lose 1lb a week, that's really good. Hold a can of beans in your hand and feel how heavy it is. Then use it for weight training Grin

jareth/sue - although I agree that starvation is a bad idea, as your body needs food as fuel, for a woman who is under average height like the OP I don't think that 1200 is a "very low calorie diet", unless the person is doing lots of very intense exercise.

If you google starvation mode there are plenty of sites that will tell you its a myth, I'm not so sure but it certainly doesn't apply at that level. By all means the OP could try eating the same sort of food as she currently is but more of it, but I would be really surprised if this helped her loose weight.

However I don't think its all down to number of calories, for example I think she could eat more calories but if she totally avoided all white carbs, and ate more protein etc then she would probably loose weight.

And yes, weight loss is long slow and boring, 1lb a week is nearly 4 stone in a year.
