Just wanted to know who else is using this and how do you find it works?

I really need to loose a stone and need some help... I am not motivated and need something to motivate me.

I use fitnesspal, i find it really interesting, how many calories different foods are.
I only roughly put in what i eat in a day (if the food i'm eating, isn't there, i just guess, or put something that is quite like it)
I just think it makes me more aware. I lose alot more when i log in everyday.
But then maybe that's because i don't bother to do it, when i know there is no hope of sticking to 1200 calories a day!
I started off at 13 stone, and i am now 11.8 - just from trying to cut out junk food, trying to eat less / portion sizes and getting into a good exercise routine.
I really wanted to be 11.7 by next week, but i am having a bad weekend with the aster eggs! My ultimate goal, is to be 10.4 by my sisters wedding in september.

Thanks for replying, wow you have done really well so far, how long has it taken you to loose the weight?

So are you only allowed 1200 calories per day? I have heard others that say if you are eating so little calories pers day then your body will go into starvation mode, not too sure tho.

I weighed myself on the last day of Jan, and i was 13.4!! (but i was 13 in the morning on 1st feb)
So i wanted to lose 10 % by my birthday. Which is next week. So i've done that. Now i want to lose anothe 10% by september (as i realise the lighter you are, the harder it gets!), so that will be 10.4. Then i will be happy.
I have tried Slimming world and weight watchers in the past. And i lose it, but then as soon as i stop doing it, i put it on.
I'm hoping with fitness pal, it is easy enough to keep going.
I find it helps, when my Dh is eating junk, to sit typing in what i have eaten that day etc
My friend said to me.. but don't you get to tea time, and run out of calories? But i don't really think of it like that (if i eat over my calories for the day, it just helps me be good the next day etc)- i am just trying to learn what i can and can't eat. And I am trying to exercise so much, that i'm allowed loads more than 1200.
I don't think you have to stick to 1200 - i think you put in, what weight you want to be, by what date, and then it tells you what you should eat per day, to get to that target.

Sorry, i didn't really answer your question, i don't think there is any chance of my body going into starvation mode!

I think if you really want to lose a stone, you should aim for 2lbs a week. so you can be a stone lighter in 7 weeks - saying that, it depends on what weight you are now!

happenedagain · 23/04/2011 23:31

I have typed my details into the fitness pal and it told me to eat 1200 cals per day.

I am 10 stone now and want to be 9stone. Possibly less, but would be happy at 9 stone.

I also think 2lbs per week will be a good weight loss, as if it was any less I dont think Iwould be motivated.

So does fotness pal give any advice or meal suggestions?

Maybe it tells everyone that then.
I have a friend who tries it, and it actually told her, that she wasn't eating enough, She is trying to get to 9 stone 4 lbs.

No i don't think it does - you can look up how many vitamins etc there were in your diet that day / week.

I love it.
It really helps me to focus and I know that I won't lose weight when I start to slack off.
Not sure if most people are the same or not, but I find that I don't lose weight if I count too many treats and carbs as part of my cal allowance. The calories mostly need to come from healthy foods.

I use Bbcgoodfood for low fat recipes and try to stick to 250-300 for breakfast, the same for lunch and 400 for dinner plus a snack and a small treat.
I don't use my exercise cals every day but do tend to relax cals on a Saturday or Fri night

sillybillymummy · 24/04/2011 21:14

Shaxx, sounds like you have it sussed! How much have you lost?
I know what you mean about slacking off. If i don't log what i eat for the day, i know there is no point getting on the scales for a few days!

Shaxx · 24/04/2011 21:55

Well, I'm not as strict as I should and have dieted on and off but I've gone from 12.7 st to 10.11 in about a year and half or so. Ideally, I want to be around 9. I used to use foodfocus but love fitnesspal as an app on my phone.
I'm back in the zone now and know what works for me. Unfortunately willpower is an extra but vital requirement Grin
