Hello, I have started a low GI diet, I have swapped bran flakes for porridge or AllBran, but I like sugar on it, will this completely ruin it? Also like to have 2 sugars in my coffee in the morning. Would it be better to put GoldenSyrup on my porridge??

ANy tips on this diet greatly welcome!!

There is an old thread if you search with loads of tips and advice. There are also some very good books. Easy Gi diet by Helen Foster is good and has recipes, explains the facts etc.
You can buy Xylitol to sweeten...its low Gi. I found it in waitrose but not sure about other supermarkets. You cant use other sugar or syrup as your body will react to that differently than the Xylitol.
Best addition to porridge is the fruits that are allowed...some are not like melon.
Coffee could use sweetners. Coffee itself is not ideal of low-Gi as caffeine slows the metabolism. Green tea ideal but have to admit dull.
Other tip are the seeded Ryvita...only the ones that say low-Gi on the pack. They're really nice with low Gi toppings.
Best advice is dont let yourself get too hungry.
Good luck.
