Hi, you lot seem very knowledgeable, so...

If I lose weight will the calves of my legs get smaller or will I always have big calves???

I have recently lost over a stone. Calves still big but am now able to zip up boots in shops, which was a rarity before.

How much do you need to loose? I'm a size 10/12 with huge calf size and will not fit standard boots....

DirtyMartini · 30/09/2010 23:14

They'll probably get a bit smaller; it really depends on whether you have muscular calves or not. If you do, the bigness isn't really fat so won't diminish much from simple weight loss.

Well I am about 14 stone if I really press down hard on the scales Wink so I could lose loads really, couldn't I? I remember when I was in my early 20s and I went up to 10 and a half stone, I felt really bloated and unfit. If I walk a lot will I have muscular calves? Or would that only come from gym-type stuff?

I have huge calves - when I was 2 stone heavier they were 17.5 inches - now they are 16.5 inches - so yes some inch loss - however I still do struggle to find boots that fit. You just have to try on loads. I bought a really nice pair in Next recently for £50.

To avoid making your calves any bigger do NOT do any exercised that involve lifting your heel off the floor whilst keeping the ball of your feet on the ground. (hope that makes sense).
