Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Not quite August but I’ve had my first Mounjaro injection today! My partner is also very anti skinny jabs so I’ve hidden mine in the fridge behind some salad cream! I’ll fess up if it works for me 😬😅

Hey! Thanks for joining me! How are you feeling? I'm a bit apprehensive to get started because of holidays etc. I also worked out we're away most weekends in august, so might have to do jabs on a friday? Maybe I might start tomorrow night? After my cooking class? I'm worried about feeling peaky, but equally being on holiday might be a great way to deal with it?

And yeah, what is with partners being so anti? I assume it's due to the stuff in the media.

I’m 24 hours in now and feeling absolutely fine. I don’t know how long it’s meant to take to start working but from looking online some say it started working straight away and others say within a few days but I wasn’t eating my way through works kitchen last night so it’s a good start! I tried wegovy at the beginning of the year and within 12 hours I had horrendous diarrhoea, sulphur burps etc but so far there’s none of that on mounjaro🤞

flipent · 24/07/2025 13:28

I'm in a weird in-between where I started last week, but feel behind in the July group and I'm a bit early for August!
I started as soon as mine arrived - and the next day went to a food festival! 😂
Glad I did. I'm not stopping myself from having anything - but I am finding that MJ just makes it a whole lot easier to make better choices.

I'm sorry for both of you that you have partners who are anti-jabs. Why do you think they are against them?

abitscaredarentI · 24/07/2025 14:26

Same I started 2 days ago, I feel too late for July but too early for August!

I've just told my partner that I've started, he is TERRIFIED of injections and I'm scared he'll pass out at some point. He warned me the idea of me self injecting made him dizzy 😅

Good luck to you all :)

flipent · 24/07/2025 14:28

@abitscaredarentI you won't be asking him to jab you then! 😂

Nemesis54 · 24/07/2025 14:39

Hi. I was seriously considering the weight loss jabs . I am 54 and weigh 78kg. However I decided not to as I am perfectly capable of losing one stone in a month my own way . I have an active job and I have always exercised. We have a good diet but I do need to make tweaks like not having wine in the week , cut out the chocolate and not skipping healthy eating just because it’s the ‘weekend’. That said. I think there is nothing wrong with weight loss injections and If you think it will work for you then all the very best to you moving forward

flipent · 24/07/2025 14:41

@Nemesis54 Absolutely baffled at why you felt the need to read but particularly comment on this thread.

Maplebean · 24/07/2025 15:01

I’ve just ordered mine so will update after first dose. Pretty nervous about side effects.

flipent · 24/07/2025 15:17

@Maplebean it's different for everyone - I've not had any. Lots of advise that drinking plenty of water (I've been so thirsty this hasn't been a challenge) and getting lots of fibre really helps.

KickAss25 · 24/07/2025 17:40

Hi. Mounjaro been in fridge for over a month…. Finally taking the plunge and starting tomorrow. Looking forward to getting some control back. Not sure how I feel about sharing what I’m doing with my friends (irrationally, I feel a little ashamed) so looking to share with you all instead!

Definitely! Looking forward to hearing about everyone else’s experiences too.

Millionaura · 24/07/2025 19:55

I have been approved today. Not starting until mid August due to holiday but feel this is a step in the right direction. Feeling quite nervous though! Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

I've been approved today and will be collecting from the pharmacy tomorrow. Am going to use it tomorrow evening, I'm so nervous about possible side effects but really hoping this will be what I need to help me on my way to losing weight.

I lost a lot of weight just before covid by eating a strict keto diet but bad habits gradually crept back in then peri menopause, a marriage breakdown, awful house move and a lot of problems with my daughter has left me eating badly and gaining a lot of weight. I've tried my hardest to lose it but feel as though I lose 1lb by trying so hard then put it back on the next and it just continues like that week in week out.

I'm 5'7 with a starting weight of 14 Stone (89kg I think), bmi is just over 30. I'm hoping to get to around 10 stone 7lb.

I'm not telling any of my friends either. I worry that a lot of people see it as cheating and are judgemental about it so I'm not telling anyone at all!

Good luck. You’re taking back control and that’s a huge step forward (that’s what I’m telling myself anyway.)

It’s a weird one isn’t it? I’m not particularly secretive by nature so it’ll be weird not discussing something that seems so ‘big’ and my friends and I are always talking about health, diet, etc but I think I want to keep it to myself for a while. Be interesting to see how long I last!

Good luck tomorrow too @KickAss25 . How are you feeling, nervous, excited, both? You can tell friends etc when you feel ready. I think by not telling anyone yet I feel less pressure if that makes sense

I’ve done my first injection today and was looking for a thread to post on

definitely feel too late for the July thread but after months of procrastinating I didn’t want to delay until August

I have a lot to lose and have lots of different reasons for over eating -I’m hoping the injections will give me the headspace to address those

A bit apprehensive tbh. Good luck to you too. I’m sure we’ll be grand!

sausagesandwiches · 25/07/2025 07:46

So far I feel precisely no different but that’s ok

there seem to be so many different anecdotes on line about side effects I have no idea what to expect

Maplebean · 25/07/2025 10:04

How are those who injected yesterday doing today?

mine comes tomorrow and I will start in evening.
