Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

I do stomach too and alternate quadrants… can you tell I have 5st to lose 🤣

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 29/08/2025 18:49

Any! Absolutely painless for me and no side effects.

Haribosweets · 29/08/2025 18:55

I'm on W3 D2 and not had as many calories so far this week. I am still feeling suppression but yesterday I did feel hungry at lunchtime. Think I will need to try and get nearer 1200 from tomorrow! What I have noticed is that I don't seem to crave anything anymore so its doing something!
I am jabbing in my B shape stomach. I prefer the lower side!

NeedSleepNow · 29/08/2025 20:21

I've just done my 6th jab, I've only done it in my thigh so far, alternating which one each week. I've not tried my stomach yet.

I haven't weighed today, I'll do that first thing in the morning. I did weigh mid week and hadn't lost anything but I feel like my waist has shrunk a tiny bit. I really must start taking measurements!

Hellenicnim · 29/08/2025 20:36

I did thigh once but have gone back to stomach even though i can't say i felt any difference. Going up to 5mg for my 6th jab tonight and then I weigh in the morning though I had to get on the scales as I was ordering a new pen and they required a photo of me standing on the scales so if i can maintain that i am another kg down for a total of 9.2 kg

I ended up cancelling with the provider I was with (she-med) - not the £99 deal, and the whole support thing was nonsense but I liked the idea of it always being one cost even as you went up the doses but I was okay with that at £160 not £280 then more over 10mg.

It does seem like 5mg will be around £160 at a few pharmacies so it won't cost me more as long as 5mg is effective and then if I have to go up I guess I'll have to consider my priorities but I do have a couple of pens in reserve

HighlandCauliflower · 29/08/2025 20:53

W2,D7 just done my third injection

I've definitely felt more hunger yesterday and today. Also noise creeping in towards the end of the week, I was watching a programme yesterday and they were tasting cake, it wasn't even the main theme of the programme but I just kept thinking cake 🤦🏻‍♀️

I've ordered my next pen, stayed at 2.5mg, time will tell if that was the right decision.
It said upto 14 days for approval, then more time for delivery, I'm going to have to try for the golden dose otherwise I'll be late with my 5th dose.

Thanks for the replies, I ended up doing it in my stomach, it wasn't as bad as I expected! I followed a video on tik tok to make sure I did it right 😂 feeling nervous but somewhat excited as I'm now on the way. Did a stock up in food earlier to try and help with what to eat. Picked up a few extra.protein things such as shakes and mousse as it sounds like I won't want to eat 😅 should I worry about calorie intake to begin with or just get my head round eating something?

I managed to eat most days and have counted calories and prioritised protein and fibre intake from the start. Also tracking my water intake to ensure minimum of 2.5L a day.

I track my calories but mostly concentrate on protein & fibre intake.
I find tracking calories at the beginning of the week helps me to make sure I'm getting enough nutrition where I could easily skip meals and towards the end of the week where I could more easily over eat.

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 30/08/2025 08:59

I record all my calories in MFP and then that tracks my macros too. Try and keep low ish carbs. Normally eat about 1100 a day.

JustPickleRick · 30/08/2025 09:23

I've woke up this morning feeling normal 🫠 hoping I didn't do it wrong! Just had some protein weetabix but yeah, totally normal, no feeling sick or not wanting food 😩 how long did it take to kick in for you all? Sorry for so many questions!

jan2310 · 30/08/2025 09:37

I’m not tracking my calories but I think I might start doing so. I’ve cut down hugely on carbs but want to keep an eye on protein.

I had an early start for work today so had to buy breakfast. I chose what I wanted then ate half and left most of the bread. I wouldn’t have done that before and I’m really proud of myself!

It took until my 2nd jab to really feel anything and actually even now it’s quite low level and I have to really think about what I’m eating. You do have to exercise willpower it just makes it slightly easier to say no.
i still have food noise but I do get fuller quicker but even then it’s not like some people report where they can just eat a spoonful and they are full. Maybe when I move to 5mg it will be like that.

Bluefloor · 30/08/2025 10:35

Have just used the golden dose from my pen, it was difficult to get it moving to begin with but once I got it moving it was okay. Total loss in 4 weeks is 10.2lbs, 24% progress. Fairly happy with that, looking forward to see what the next 4 weeks bring.

It was very gradual for me, can’t say I particularly noticed until I started to look back on the week. I’m sure you will start to notice soon ☺️

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 30/08/2025 10:37

That’s really good loss Bluefloor! How much did you manage to get out in the end from the 5th dose?

jigsawmeup · 30/08/2025 10:41

That's reassuring to hear @LaGioiosanotLeviosa I am week 1 day 6 and can't say I have felt any different in terms of appetite suppression, so I have had to rely on willpower to stay in a calorie deficit. Not quite what I was expecting, but I guess it's a cumulative effect?

AsteriaBuffy · 30/08/2025 10:43

@JustPickleRick I think it was more like 24 hours later it kicked in, but for me the main effects were feeling full more quickly than usual, and not getting snacking urges between meals.

Bluefloor · 30/08/2025 10:57

I got the full dose out, there was still some left in the pen too.

JoRaRaRa · 30/08/2025 11:00

Bluefloor · 30/08/2025 10:57

Did you use an insulin syringe? I tried to use another needle top. Managed to twist the pen, then when I went to inject it, I couldn't push down the pen, it wasn't budging. So I took it out of my stomach, banged on the end and it all went shooting across my living room 🙈🤣 so I've gone up a dose quicker than I planned to 🤣

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 30/08/2025 11:27

Not sure which thread this was on but I’ve bought these for when I do my extra dose. Syringe and then two different size needles, one to extract then change to a different one to inject (you don’t have to change I guess but I wanted to)

First dose of Mounjaro for me this morning. What should I expect now? How long before I feel something?
I'm not a sweet/junk eater, more like always hungry and emotional eater of really any kind of food.

reluctantbrit · 30/08/2025 11:42

Second 5mg jab and no side effects, definitley not sickness or feeling sluggish like last week.

But the dreaded constipation is back. Grr.

I feel I can eat but am not hungry, I include some snacks like another yoghurt with fruit or small slice of toast to get more calories though.

I will be on a weeklong business trip from Tuesday, that will be interesting.

user1475881032 · 30/08/2025 11:45

5.3 , 13.1 st to start

Kernowmaidporth · 30/08/2025 12:04

When I took my first jab. I went to bed. When I woke the next day I had such a strong suppression it was unreal. I literally have not felt hungry until about wk5. I’m still only doing 2.5. I really cannot believe how effective this drug has been for me. I am 17 pound down and 5 wks in. Cut out all processed food. Trying to have plenty of protein. Usually start day with 550 calories in a packed overnight oats. Sets me up till dinner. Keep neglecting my water intake tho. It’s so strange how it affects everyone so differently?
