August 25 Starters

Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Have up been up since 6am and have had two cups of tea. Have not had anything for breakfast. Does anyone feel they have to have something even if not hungry?

I have issues with low blood pressue and non eating is a real issue.

I started looking for smoothies with yoghurt and oats as I hope they are easier than trying a slice of toast or cereals (which I hate).

We just came back from shopping and our routine is to get a cappuchino. It's standing in front of me, nice but I don't really crave it as I normally do.

NeedSleepNow · 26/07/2025 12:57

I've had a coffee and a banana today but didn't really fancy either. By now I would usually be starving and have eaten a lot more but I'm not really feeling like eating anything. I'm off to the supermarket in a minute, might grab a salad for later as I will try to keep eating a bit even if not feeling up to it.

Hope those with nausea start to feel a bit better soon. How soon after your first dose did the nausea start?

@saywhaaaaaat I fee a bit like we've hijacked your 'planning for August' thread by starting too early! 😳

Haha! Don’t worry. I ended up taking my first injection yesterday. I had a strike while the iron is hot feeling. I feel AMAZING. Could be placebo but I feel calmer and more in control than I have ever felt.

I’ve just had my first meal and it was fine. I was hungry, ate the right amount. Feel good!

Great, so we're all in it together!

PinkSun9 · 26/07/2025 13:56

I boiled 2 eggs for lunch and one thin slice of rye bread. Only managed one egg n feel full. Nothing for breakfast.
Anxiously awaiting any side effects but happy as well to not have any hunger pangs.

Maplebean · 26/07/2025 14:38

Hi

just had my first injection of Wegovy. Feeling a bit ‘funny’ immediately after. Like I can feel it surging through me- sort of warm/heavy.

bit worried- did anyone else get that?

Hopefully it's nothing and you won't have any issues. I'm using monjouro rather than wegovy, I'm not sure if they have similar side effects. I've been noticing lots of funny aches, twinges etc today and worrying it's something but I think it's just because I've been so nervous about the first dose and I'm picking up on things I normally wouldn't pay any attention to if that makes sense.

Thanks for your reply. Yea that makes sense. I was feeling pretty anxious so that could be part of it.

It has eased off a bit now. Just had my dinner and ate all of it so appetite suppression not kicked in yet ;)

Are you feeling a difference food wise?

Lets see how this evening and tomorrow goes!

I took mounjaro and felt a bit wobbly immediately after. Had some weetabix and felt better immediately. I think it might have been low blood sugar. Also quite hot for an hour or so after taking it.

Yes I got the hot thing! Like a warm sensation through my body.

thankfully it seems to have eased off now.

sausagesandwiches · 26/07/2025 18:47

Oh my word I feel like I have spent all day going backwards and forwards to the toilet for a wee today (TMI sorry)

is this normal????

NeedSleepNow · 26/07/2025 19:21

@Maplebean I haven't felt very hungry today. I've been eating small portions, a lot less than usual.

thecomedyofterrors · 26/07/2025 21:09

Hi all. Looks like lots of you have started early, so I’ll join you- took first dose tonight and v excited about the possibilities! How is everyone feeling?

FancyFlapjack · 26/07/2025 21:23

Hello All - I am looking to start in Aug

I am thinking of going through SheMed - but not sure if I should choose Wegovy or Mounjaro or let the clinician decide?

I am 5ft 2 and over 17 stone and on a recent flight only just managed to get the seatbelt fastened and it took me a few minutes to do so!

Feeling a bit strange tbh but nothing specific. Not particularly noticing any suppression but obviously early days. I started yesterday morning.

NeedSleepNow · 26/07/2025 22:01

Welcome @FancyFlapjack . I've gone with asda for my prescription as I wanted to be able to collect it in person and I opted for monjouro.

@thecomedyofterrors I'm now 24 hours in and feeling OK. I've been really thirsty all day and am starting to feel quite achey/tender on my back, arms & neck but it's not awful. I've eaten today but couldn't finish my dinner of 2 scrambled eggs & a piece of wholemeal toast as I felt very full quickly.

I’m feeling muscular stuff too which I didn’t think was an effect

Lou16777 · 26/07/2025 22:33

Hi all,

I ordered on Wednesday through Asda, waiting for them to check pictures etc but hoping I will be an Augist starter!

Do you feel dizzy if you don't eat anything with your blood pressure issues? I do, and then crave sugar or anything sweet desperately.
But so far today has been a good day for me. No hunger pangs, no diarrhea, no nausea. Fingers crossed.

Same here. I'm putting it down to drinking more than normal due to feeling thirsty more.

reluctantbrit · 27/07/2025 07:17

@PinkSun9 - yep, dizzy and faint. It took my DH ages to realise that I can't skip or delay meals.

reluctantbrit · 27/07/2025 07:22

Good morning - how is everyone?

I am a bit hungry but it's 12 hours since my small dinner so I think that's normal.

We did a tomato sauce with red wine yesterday and I had a small glass of wine afterwards while watching TV. I actually didn't like the wine at all and couldn't even drink more than 1-2 sips . Very untypical for me.

Oh well, that may be on the positive side.

I’ve woken up with no hunger at all. I’m sipping an iced coffee and I’m going to wait until I feel hungry to eat something. Right now the thought of food is off putting!

I had to get up a few times in the night to pee but slept better otherwise.

Got some occasional discomfort in my tummy- like trapped wind pain.

It’s day 3 and for the first time I’ve woken up feeling ok-ish. Only slight nausea now and I feel I want to eat some breakfast.
