Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

It's crazy how it affects people differently. I'm not even sure what this suppression is supposed to feel like 😅 very unsure today!

Kernowmaidporth · 30/08/2025 12:21

I wasn’t aware I was suppressed. Before taking the jab. I would think about food and want food all day every day. I would overeat and then still snack. Since the jab it’s like a brick wall. I just literally lost that drive and desire for food overnight. I guess it’s the blood sugar levels being stable. I would get SO hangry and tired and desperate to eat and it’s all just gone quiet. This is what I consider suppression !? But now I further along I am starting to feel hungry .. but it’s not that urgent grab anything feeling I used to get. I feel calm and able to plan and make something like an omelette etc. The urgency has gone. I think it’s voodoo !! I’m in awe of this medicine. Just not sure I can afford to keep going with the price hike.

It's crazy how it affects people differently. I'm not even sure what this suppression is supposed to feel like 😅 very unsure today!

For me, the first week suppression it was suddenly getting to 6pm and realising oh it's probably time to eat but having no motivation to cook anything. And then feeling really full about an hour after eating half a portion. TBF I have had quite a bit of heartburn and a little nausea and they have also made me disinclined to eat.

This second week I have focussed on regular meals, and I have been finding I'm hungry by the time tea is ready. I have been eating normalish portion of protein and veg in the evening. But breakfast and lunch I'm really eating because I need to. Other than this morning and yesterday I did wake up hungry then it faded.

I have still thought about snacking on high calorie food, one night I even went on just eat website browsing greasy fried foods but didn't buy anything. I would say the volume of those urges is not gone but lower, like it's a five whereas it was always a seven or eight.

I realised earlier this must be the first time in ages that I've gone two weeks without going to the shop to buy secret chocolate, cream cake etc.

HighlandCauliflower · 30/08/2025 14:27

W3, D1 I inject on a Friday evening then weigh on a Saturday morning, 4lb off this week or 1.8kg

SW 95.1kg
CW 91.1kg
GW 67-73kg

I have a goal range, last time I was at the lower end I was miserable with how little I could eat, going to see how I feel.

NeedSleepNow · 30/08/2025 15:08

W6 D1 today for me. I injected last night and weighed this morning, I lost a little again this week so my total loss now is 17lb (sorry my brain can't cope with converting to KGs so I still weigh in stone/pounds!) .

SW - 14 stone
CW - 12 stone 11lb
GW - 10 stone 7 lb

I'm still on 2.5mg dose, I might move up when I order my next pen, I haven't decided yet. I've got 2 more doses in my current pen plus the golden dose if I can get it to work this time. Last time I managed to force the dial to turn but couldn't get the plunger to work. With prices having gone up I don't want to waste it this time so will order some insulin needles to use.

HighlandCauliflower · 30/08/2025 15:41

My brain works in stone & pounds too NeedSleepNow but I find it oddly difficult to calculate losses, trying to record 4lb 12 oz as say 4.8lb 😅

I have 2 charts at home, one in kilos and the other in st, lb.

How have you found the suppression on your second 2.5mg pen?
I've ordered another 2.5mg as my second.

NeedSleepNow · 30/08/2025 16:13

@HighlandCauliflower suppression doesn't seem as strong now as when I first started, I'm finding I'm really quite hungry by the end of the week but my cravings for sweet foods have still disappeared which is a big thing for me.

MrsSuu · 30/08/2025 16:20

W3 D1. Considering I’ve just been on holiday all inclusive I‘m really pleased to have gone down. The suppression has been a huge factor and I have had to force myself to eat, even simple small salads. Anyone else have a huge craving for water? I have drank so much!

SW - 156lb
CW - 146lb
GW - 126lb

10lb off so far 👏🏻

Well done everyone! Exciting to see what September will bring :-)

Well done, especially after a holiday.

@MrsSuudo you mind me asking how tall you are? I would be overjoyed to reach your start weight at 5’5’’ 😳.

That's what I'm worried about, with the price rises I'm planning to stay on as low dose as possible, only go up when it's no longer giving me postive results.

TheArtfulCrow · 30/08/2025 18:00

W5 D1 and Ive gained a pound despite tracking everything Im eating and keeping active 🥲. I had been horrifically bloated all week though and its finally going down as of today so I'm hoping next week will be better!

Did you use an insulin syringe? I tried to use another needle top. Managed to twist the pen, then when I went to inject it, I couldn't push down the pen, it wasn't budging. So I took it out of my stomach, banged on the end and it all went shooting across my living room 🙈🤣 so I've gone up a dose quicker than I planned to 🤣

I was planning on buying syringes but I read on here that people had managed to do it and I had extra needle tops. I didn’t have any problems pushing it down, bet you were gutted to see it going to waste 😭 I’m not sure what to do about going up, I feel normal now no symptoms, not sure if there’s any suppression, but I am still loosing. So may stick to the 2.5 still.

I’m just over 5 foot which put me in the obese category for my starting weight. I’ve had a really difficult year personally which has resulting in weight gain. As soon as my clothes stop fitting I knew I had to turn it around. I’ve always been a runner but unfortunately other things have had to take priority.

Anyone switched from Mounjaro to Wegovy?

I’m on 2.5mg MJ, will jab the 4th dose on Monday and will try the golden dose, if it works. I have however ordered Wegovy now, due to the price increase, and will start at 0.5mg after MJ ends. Has anyone else swapped, how did it go?

Hellenicnim · 30/08/2025 20:18

Morning weight confirmed the just over a kg lost for 9.2kg total. I was not hungry at all today but forced myself to have a protein shake and some fridge raiders - I am extremely thirsty though which I was when I first started so maybe thats because of the step up to 5mg. Going to try and have a sensible high protein dinner too

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 30/08/2025 22:55

Ooh look at the number of posts….we need a new thread

user1475881032 · 31/08/2025 15:03

Day 2. Still eating what was normal for me. Less hungry but the desire of food pleasure is still there...

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 31/08/2025 17:09

Good evening everyone!

W1D7

suppression really non existent today lol, but been battered with a terrible migraine (I suffer these anyway don’t think it’s MJ related) so haven’t really been in the mood to eat and napped on and off.

SW in Jan - 13st11.09lbs
SW with MJ - 12st3.6lbs
CW - 11st13.1lbs

im down 4.5lbs this week which is fab. But I’m so nervous and anxious to do week 2 jab tomorrow and I don’t know why. I’ve actually said to my husband I’m not taking it. He said it’s entirely up to me but he’s trying to reassure me all is ok but I can’t shake the anxiety. I don’t suffer anxiety outwit MJ, well the odd mum anxiety but not regular if you get me. Side effects wise, I’ve been really nauseous on and off, trapped wind for 2 days which gave me bad tummy pains but passed. Constipation but I also have ibs so I wouldn’t really say it’s anything out the ordinary for myself but something I have noticed is terribly dry eyes? Is this a side effect or a coincidental timing to have it. I’ve never had it before, my eyes are red on the outside and just feel tired and dry. My eyes will then go blurry and then water. But it hasn’t been the whole week, has anyone else had this?

thanks xx

sfraxx · 01/09/2025 09:53

Good morning,

I’ve had my 2nd injection but had a major blunder, just waiting on my pharmacy opening at 10 to call them.

when injecting my 2nd dose, I noticed when pressing down I was really pushing the pen in and hurting myself, so I pulled it out a bit but pulled the whole thing out. It says not to reinsert the same needle so I only got maybe just over half a dose of 2.5ml. Will this affect my journey do you think? Or affect my pen? I pushed the last few clicks down into the sink and put the lid back on the needle but I’m worried it doesn’t affect me or I’ll either have no effects or maybe opposite🤦🏽‍♀️ this is why I need supervision to do this lol, I did it myself and just for myself into a panic. My husband is working and helped me through it last week x

You could use a new needle and 20 clicks to get a half dose. You could have just replaced the needle instead of throwing away the remainder too.

Hi,

I didn’t have any other needles with me unfortunately or I’d have done this😔x
