Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

First day at work and definitely not eating enough so I felt dizzy and faint by 3pm.

I had a milkshake and it got better. So I do need to re-think lunch again as the small one I had doesn't seem to cut it. I normally buy at work and while the food is nice it's not really what I should eat all the time (big part of changing food choices). I work hybrid so it's around 2-3 days a week.

But I really stopped being hungry and don't ge the "fancy a biscuit" cravings. I even had to remember drinking a coffee which is normally a big fixture in my workday.

I try to get to 1200/1300 calories per day.

Joining in here as also feel a little late for the July thread.

My mounjaro arrived on Saturday and I injected that day - I had a headache before I jabbed and then I had a headache all day that was almost but not quite a migraine but I guess now I'll never know if if it was the jab or if I was getting that anyway as i'm quite migraine prone. (Big props to the people keeping it in the fridge for the right moment I was just like get it over with and get going.)

I have definitely been feeling the thirst but no other side affects other than the initial headache (which as I say might not have been the jab) I don't know if I feel like my appetite is suppressed yet though - I have a big calorie allowance as I have a lot to lose so not struggled to stick to it yet (but like days 1-3 of diets are not the usual issue so we'll see)

I was the same, I used it the day I got it, I think if I'd kept it in the fridge for the right moment I personally would never have used it. I suddenly felt brave so thought let's do this now! I've not had too many side effects so far, I was achey the first few days and have been very thirsty. I had a bit of nausea yesterday but it went after I had something light to eat.

Have you had any more headaches since? Hopefully it was just that you had a headache already rather than a side effect.

Well done everyone

we are a year before you and if you have time maybe read our current thread

it was /is the best thing we ever did

many of us are at goal after losing 4/5/6/7s in a year

some had a couple of stone to lose as short but still bmi over 30

most of us had a good 4/5s to lose ideally

some are still losing /need to lose another 1/2/3s

we support all on the thread whether losing gaining maintaining

it does work

slow and steady

there may be blips where you gain or sts which can be hard but over all it’s a continual downward journey - think I had 3w of sts and really pissed me off but then started to lose again

we started off with maybe 50 people posting. Prob having a regular 20 or so now

some tips if you don’t mind

measure self at start. Boobs. Waist. Hips. Thigh. Arm.

measure every 2/4w - the numbers will drop

take monthly pics. Pics don’t lie. You will see your shape change

always drink 2l + of water daily. The weeks you don’t ,def lose less

eat Protein - shakes / bars / chicken /mince /tuna /eggs - keeps you full plus helps maintain muscle

lactulose if suffer constipation

everything in moderation. It’s fine to eat a cake/biscuit . Just not 3 / don’t beat yourself up

count cals. Apps like my fitness pal free really help

swap monthly providers to get the best deal. Yes takes maybe 10/15m to fill out new forms but saving £50 a month

I didn’t have any side effects but equally didn’t really hit me either. Nothing till 10. Went to 15 and didn’t notice a big difference (I’m hardcore lol) and then reduced at goal

food noise as people call it didn’t stop for me. I still eat crisps - chocolate - takeaways - just smaller portions

portion control is important. Weigh stuff out - it’s looks small but not, it’s plenty as I was used to massive plates of spag Bol etc and stomach shrinks

sure there are other things that I’ve forgotten

good luck and in a year you can be a new you

I’ve lost almost 7s. Was bmi 38 now 23

17s 4 to 10s 7 - only wanted to get to 11 but got to have a leeway so if gain lbs to diet again

easier to get 4/5lbs off then 5/7stone

size 20 (maybe 22 as stretched some clothes) to a 12 - some tops /dresses a 10

hope you didn’t mind me replying

@Blondeshavemorefun wow, well done. You look amazing.

Thanks so much for posting. I feel as though this is exactly the sort of info and input that I need, so really appreciated that you took the time to share.

I have been very reticent to take the photos and do the measuring but I can see now why they're so useful!

Thanks so much.

FurForksSake · 29/07/2025 11:50

(Aug 24 starter). Take the photos, from every angle, in your underwear, in your jeans, take the measurements. Hide them if you must, but you will massively appreciate them, take them monthly and it really does help with the long term motivation)

Thanks for the tips- really helpful

abitscaredarentI · 29/07/2025 13:39

I'm using a diary app- day one. You can make different diaries, I've made one for self care to track my size/ add picture and see the change.
Thanks for all the advice!

Hellenicnim · 29/07/2025 13:58

Thanks @KickAss25 :)

No more headaches @NeedSleepNow or any other side effects - touch wood so probably was just one of those days.

i am taking collagen and fibre and electrolytes just in case (as I had them off the last diet I did so might as well) 😳

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/07/2025 15:17

Thanks @mustytrusty@Maplebean - waves to @FurForksSake she’s on my Auggies threads -

good luck all

tho I will add it’s not a magic thing

you do need to put in the hard work as well. You do need to eat healthily and stop when full. You don’t need to finish your plate (ingrained in me)

and def take pics and ideally wear the same thing or same colour each month so can see shape change

many months I didn’t see the diff in me till look at the pics and measure and think omfg I’ve lost so many cm

inafct the tape measure didn’t even fit round my hips and I had to mark and measure again now fits round me with cams to spare

abitscaredarentI · 29/07/2025 16:08

I was planning to move my second injection to tomorrow but I'm getting huuuuuge cravings. I could deal some serious damage to a chocolate bar coming my way.

How do you guys deal with that?
Otherwise I might just have the jab tonight, I'm trying not to go rogue!

saywhaaaaaat · 29/07/2025 16:25

Hey all! Those posts from aug 24ers have really motivated me. I’m on holiday and omg I am struggling a bit. Ironically not over eating but everything where we are staying is just pure stodgy stuff. I ended up eating half a chicken Caesar salad last night and have eaten a cream tea today. Bit of a food desert tbh.

i feel good and the dopamine chasing vibe is definitely gone but my god i feel bored haha. I know that I need to sit with these feelings and boredom is my core issues but it’s so… boring. 😆

OP posts:
YvonneLocker · 29/07/2025 16:45

Thank you to the Aug 24ers - it's so lovely to read your tips and successes.

It's weird isn't it @saywhaaaaaat- I want to eat my usual snacks because it's such a habit but also I feel like I'm going to get no pleasure from it so there's no point.
Breakfast and lunch was very healthy but I felt nauseous about an hour afterwards.. only for a bit but was noticeable. Dinner tonight will just be for subsistence. Honestly I'm feeling a bit sad about it as food and cooking is a passion. If I didn't overeat all the crap I wouldn't be where I am now but at the same time I get a lot of pleasure from cooking good food so I'm struggling a bit with having to lose both.

saywhaaaaaat · 29/07/2025 17:09

I know what you mean, however I do wonder if part of my problem was pure overwhelm? Like I wanted to make all the things, I struggle what to choose when we eat our, I hoard cook books. Almost like water water everywhere and drink it all and feel like crap. I’m hoping I can favour things more which will help me. Like I’ll be more picky etc.

Hello everyone! I just took my first injection about 30 mins ago - feeling nervous and thought I might find reassurance and solidarity in this thread and group!

reluctantbrit · 29/07/2025 19:05

@YvonneLocker I get you. I love cooking (and baking) so it does feel a bit of a letdown at the moment.

I have lots of cook-/baking books and do feel sad that I don't fancy having a nose around and looking for inspirations.

I hope when I see that MJ is working I will be able to experiment more again. I just have to go over the first couple of weeks and see what is working to be able to enjoy a small slice of cake or a new recipe.

sausagesandwiches · 29/07/2025 19:42

Food programs are about the only thing I watch on TV so I hope I don’t lose interest!

1st jab was on Thursday and so far I have felt no different really

I’m generally quite motivated in week 1 of a diet so feel like I’ll get a loss on the scales on Thursday but don’t think I’ve had any impact from the jab

Maplebean · 29/07/2025 20:00

I have to be honest and say I’m hungrier than ever. I’ve had about 1700 cals today and I’m feeling really really hungry this evening.

I had a funny spell this afternoon where I started sweating, felt a bit weak and funny and had to lie down. Did feel like it could be low blood sugar.

my heartburn is also worse than it usually is.

Just going to have some Fanta zero with ice in a bit as I definitely don’t want to eat more and undo my calorie deficit

3isthemagicestnumber · 29/07/2025 20:43

Hi Everyone - took my first jab on Sunday evening - felt exhausted yesterday, struggled to get through work, also very cold. Today feel a lot better - still a bit shivery, but ate a banana to try and combat. Struggling to get enough food in just no interest in eating. Really interested in hearing others experiences and tips. I’m mid 40s, 5ft 4 and I thought I had about 2 stone to lose, but the BMI guide tells me it’s nearer 3.5….. that would make me lighter than when I left high school!

NeedSleepNow · 29/07/2025 20:50

@3isthemagicestnumber I've been feeling cold too since my first jab Friday evening.

I've not been craving sweet food at all which is very unusual for me. I've been making sure my food choices are healthy but don't think I've been having much protein. I think I need to sit down and plan my food well but we're staying with family at the moment so it's hard to cook separate things all the time, especially as no one knows about the jabs so hard to explain why I might not want to eat the same as everyone else.

Yes similarly have a VERY sweet tooth - which seems to have disappeared. I’d just assumed I would eat the same, but smaller portions but I just don’ t really fancy ‘proper food’ at the moment. Greek Yoghurt with Chia and Flax seeds has become my ‘go to’ to get something down. Hope we both warm up a little soon!

Hellenicnim · 29/07/2025 21:52

Fullness kicked in while eating dinner tonight (chicken, new potatoes and salad) and now I feel a bit sick.

I hadn't struggled to stick to my deficit this week combo of new diet plus having quite large tdee because I'm very big (ten stone plus to lose) but I hadn't really noticed any suppression until now.

saywhaaaaaat · 30/07/2025 07:40

I ate more than I had planned yesterday but I’m in a bit of a decent food drought where I am. So far doing ok only things is I have the dreaded constipation 😆

going to a supermarket today so going to grab fruit juice and stuff like that to help and some more protein snacks for the last few days I’m here.
