Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

I feel fine 3 days later. But if a headache but Frank plenty of water and that helped. I got the suppression for the first 2 days but I feel what it's gone :/
Il have to wait and see the rest of the week!

mustytrusty · 25/07/2025 14:10

Please could I join you?

My mounjaronis due to arrive this afternoon and I think I'll do the first jab today. I'm quite scared to do it though, even though I've read up on it and have been dithering about it for months.

I'm 57, 5ft 5, 14 stone 3lbs and T2 diabetic. Been fat all my adult life and tried every diet under the sun. Have had success with Fast 800 style eating so will try to stick to that sort of food.

I will tell DP but not my friends as they tend to believe 'eat less, move more' is the way forward and I think they'll consider it cheating.

welcome! Sounds like you have a good plan for success. I think most of us already know what we need to eat to be healthy, we’re just hoping that mounjaro will give us the extra help to stick to our goals.

mustytrusty · 25/07/2025 14:24

Thanks! Yes, I know the theory, I just need something to support me towards the end goal. I'm not expecting a miracle. I know I need to work hard and change my habits and mind set and I'm so hoping this might be the thing that helps me to step off that stressful yo-yoing. I'm so tired of being judged as somehow lacking in determination or willpower.

Completely know where you’re coming from. I’m looking forward to not having to feel like a failure on the weight loss front and not obsessing about my weight a hundred times a day. I have about 17 kg to lose. I’m signed up with Zoe so will be loosely following their healthy principles.

That’s great you haven’t had loads of side effects though!
when you had the suppression did it significantly impact your food intake on those days?
Maybe it will last longer at the higher dose

Have you done your first jab today in the end? I've picked my first pen up from the pharmacy today and am quite nervous to use it. I'm going to use it this evening once the kids are in bed I think

mustytrusty · 25/07/2025 20:16

@NeedSleepNow not yet. I unpacked it and put it in the fridge. I don't understand why I'm nervous of it!!

reluctantbrit · 25/07/2025 20:50

Can I join? Injected today for the first time with 99.4kg.

I am an absolute stress/comfort eater and after 5 years with supporting a teen with mental health issues through lockdown, GCSE and now A-level, I just can't do it on my own.

Luckily DH is totally on my side, he can loose weight as well as I will have to adjust my cooking again.

I lost over 20kg 20 years ago so I know I can do it.

I know an acquaintance who started mid-June and for me that was the kick I needed. Not sure about sharing with friends yet but I think I will have to say something at one point as we often meet for food.

I've done mine now, I suddenly felt brave and decided to do it but now I'm wondering if I should have waited and worrying that I'll feel unwell!

I did mine this morning. Feeling ok so far - trying to drink lots of water.

@NeedSleepNow well done! I am spurred on by this 😊

GrumpyExpat · 25/07/2025 21:22

I had similar stats to you (5’7, 96kg) and started a month ago. Just wanted to give you a fist bump. Just had my fifth injection today (first 5mg). I’m now 91kg. I’ve had no serious side effects beyond a bit of acid reflux when I started which is now gone. I was a normal BMI throughout my 20s and 30s but after I had my daughter at 38, everything changed. I gained a lot of pregnancy weight but managed to lise it all in a year, only to gain and lose and gain and gain and gain. 1-2kg a year. I went to the doctor years ago with my concerns and got the whole eat less move more lecture. I move a lot. I play tennis, ride my bike everywhere, do yoga and pilates, plus workout with weights pretty regularly. The continuing gain was obviously down to me not being realistic about my diet but everytime i tried any eating plan, I was ravenously hungry and would fail.
Everything has changed on MJ. I do not feel hungry at all. I don’t have cravings. I eat, feel full, and stop eating. Almost like a normal person! The way I used to feel. Also I am amazed at how much better my body feels. I’m less swollen and puffy, and I recover faster after exercise.
It’s an amazing drug and I’m sorry your partner is not more supportive. Mine is 100% and now wants it himself.

That's great you've not had any side effects so far. I'm not very good at drinking water, it's something I definitely need to work on.

How are you feeling today? I started yesterday too and have woken up so thirsty but other than that feel OK so far.

mustytrusty · 26/07/2025 08:40

I've just taken mine this morning. I can't believe how nervous I feel.

I hope that all the folks who started yesterday are feeling ok today and have a good night's rest 😊

I took my first dose last night and felt so nervous, I still do. Well done on taking the first step, hopefully you won't have any side effects and will be feeling well once the nerves subside x

sausagesandwiches · 26/07/2025 09:07

I had a terrible nights sleep last night

not that unusual for me but my brain went straight to ‘I hope this isn’t a side effect’

other than that I feel ok -still felt hungry yesterday but woken up this morning thinking I could take or leave breakfast but I’ve had some anyway

Hopefully it's not a side effect and your sleep will settle. I'm not feeling hungry this mornig but I don't usually have breakfast so it's not unusual for me. I'm about to have something to eat to help with energy levels

Hi I'm feeling OK but was on high alert throughout the night, not knowing what to expect!! Feeling thirsty too but not hungry at all.

I had real trouble shutting off yesterday evening.

Woke up at 5am, not hungry, slept a bit more and had breakfast at 9.45am. Normally I would have been starving, especially as dinner was on the smaller side.

Really struggled thinking of shopping for the next week, don't really fancy anything but have to feed the rest of the family.

PinkSun9 · 26/07/2025 11:41

Have up been up since 6am and have had two cups of tea. Have not had anything for breakfast. Does anyone feel they have to have something even if not hungry?

Lucienandjean · 26/07/2025 11:49

Hi everyone! I did my first jab on Thursday. I slipped into the July thread but felt everyone else was so much further on. Since Friday (is that really only yesterday?) I've had really bad nausea. Finding it hard to keep anything down but feel I should try to eat something! I really hope the nausea eases up.

At the moment I guess I'm not having any trouble eating less than usual, but only because I feel ill. Hoping when the nausea wears off I'll have more idea about whether I've got any appetite suppression.
