August 25 Starters

Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Day 2 here. I ended up eating a fair bit yesterday but less than I would have. Food has been a big part of my life and even like relaxing I watch food programmes etc. I have like zero interest in doing that. I tried watching a cooking show and it just felt beige.

making a point to track my food as well, while I want to lose weight I want to retain as much muscle as possible. Also protecting my hair as well 😆

@saywhaaaaaatThat’s interesting about the food programmes. I’m still thinking about food all the time (not necessarily about eating it) but I guess that’ll take time as I start to trust the process. Only just starting to hear about hair loss. What’s that all about?

Hi all,

I ordered on Wednesday through Asda, waiting for them to check pictures etc but hoping I will be an Augist starter!

@Lou16777 i went with asda too. I ordered on the Sunday, they approved my order on the Thursday and I collected it the next day. Hopefully within a few days yours will be approved too

Good morning - how is everyone?

I am a bit hungry but it's 12 hours since my small dinner so I think that's normal.

We did a tomato sauce with red wine yesterday and I had a small glass of wine afterwards while watching TV. I actually didn't like the wine at all and couldn't even drink more than 1-2 sips . Very untypical for me.

Oh well, that may be on the positive side.

Day 2 for me, I woke up feeling slightly hungry so had a bit of greek yoghurt, fruit & a coffee. I'm less achey today than I was yesterday but very thirsty still and feel a bit uncomfortable like I have trapped wind.

So if you lose weight quickly, your body sometimes can drop “superfluous” activities which is why people get cold etc and sometimes it’ll mean that you get thinning hair etc as the body doesn’t prioritise it. It’s not a mounjaro thing but I had it when I lost a lot of weight doing keto (worked a charm but was not in a good place at the time). I mean I’m not a scientists and this could be bs, but it’s a way of making sure I prioritise protein. 😆

@saywhaaaaaat- Thanks. Good to know. It’s tempting to go down the losing weight as soon as possible route but this is a good reminder to try and take it steady. I’m trying to take this as a good opportunity to ‘nourish’ my body - as you say loads of protein & veggies. Being so overweight, My hair’s my best feature so I don’t want to lose it!

FancyFlapjack · 27/07/2025 12:53

I have just ordered - waiting for my blood test kit to arrive now. I feel so nervous about it all suddenly.

Is anyone planning or already taking any supplements?

Maplebean · 27/07/2025 13:04

@KickAss25 yeah same!

The research I’ve done so far says best results (and less side effects) come from:

-eating whole foods
-eating small amounts throughout day
-staying away from ultra processed foods as these can be absorbed too quickly and cause side effects
-lots water
-fibre

This seems like good lifestyle advice generally.

I've sort of already started feeling a bit nauseous around greasy oily food.

@FancyFlapjack I heard taking electrolytes can be helpful to avoid dehydration and plan to do this

I heard about taking collagen supplement for wrinkles n extra flabby skin. Googled and apparently Bettervits' collagen complex is good. Has anyone tried it or trying?

saywhaaaaaat · 27/07/2025 13:19

I already take collagen and creatine daily. I have had greens powder in the past as well but not sure if I’m convinced yet. lol.

I am really enjoying this mental clarity feeling at the moment and while it’s still early days I’m panicking a little about that feeling of overwhelm coming back when I do come off. Fairly sure I’m undiagnosed adhd but equally feel put off trying to get a diagnosis. Might try and find a similar supplement or adaptogen to introduce that will support after this.

OP posts:
NeedSleepNow · 27/07/2025 15:17

I've been considering taking both creatine and collogen too @saywhaaaaaat. Do you think they make a difference?

saywhaaaaaat · 27/07/2025 16:51

Creatine for sure. That stuff I really notice and the more research about it the better it sounds. Collagen. Meh. Not sure.

Thanks that's helpful, any particular brand you'd recommend?

sausagesandwiches · 27/07/2025 18:40

How has everyone been today?

I went out for Sunday lunch and ate a normal roast dinner but dessert did not interest me

I’m just about to make myself a chicken wrap -not hungry but know I should be eating

Sunday is normally a day of snacking but I’ve not been bothered today

I’ve just gone with what is cheapest. My protein usually chucks in a packet free when I’ve ordered from them as well.

I’ve had porridge and berries, lentil soup with crackers, jacket potato with tuna and cheese, just having a mint tea with my collagen in now.

I’ve not overeaten at all, and I def feel like I’m calmer and enjoying my food more.

Side note dh has said that he will “support” (rolling my eyes at this even though I do appreciate it) but has asked I do no more than 3 months. I think that’s fair, even if it’s enough to quiet the noise so I can concentrate on my fitness, routine, breath the dopamine chasing patterns that’s something. I think my mindset is solid this time.

Is there a reason for him not wanting you to do more than 3 months? Is he concerned about the side effects?

Ive felt a normal level of hunger today. Have actually enjoyed my food more though somehow and have wanted healthier options.

Yes, he’s firmly in the just use willpower camp. That’s and worries about pancreatitis etc

The second night I was absolutely freezing I woke up thinking thinking I should remind myself to eat to avoid that

GertieLawrence · 28/07/2025 09:08

Hi all, I’ve just been approved for mounjaro and it’s being despatched. I’m my heaviest ever at over 16 stone and 5’7. Unfortunately I have a chronic health condition which limits my ability to exercise and I’m desperate to stop the steady increase month on month. I also have IBS so I am wary of gastro side effects but as I’m retired (early due to health) at least I can use my own loo!

So far I’m reading that I need to focus on water and protein. I’m not veggie but don’t eat much meat, so I’ll need to give that a lot of thought when I’m doing my next online shop.

Meant to say - initially DH was very against because he was worried for me re side effects. Now he realises the nhs prescribe it and he’s seeing friends benefitting he’s changed his view and agrees with me that not doing something is going to be a lot more detrimental to me in the long run.

Good luck with it!

I’m unable to do much movement atm as well so I feel your pain regarding the impact on weight.

I started just under 48 hours ago and am only now getting an iffy tummy. I already had a bit of IBS and bad heartburn and my heartburns been bad today so wondering if I can take omaprezole?

I found this video really informative

kind of a click baitey title but the content was scientific and well informed.

Oh I've just thought of sharing that. For those who get constipated, I've included a sachet of ispagula husk in my diet, one a day after lunch(or in the afternoon between lunch and dinner)
It's not too gross, feels like a natural addition to my good intake and has helped a lot!

I take omeprazole for GERD already so hopefully it will be ok.

Hi!
I started Wegovy today—got a bit excited and jabbed this morning, though I probably should’ve waited until tonight.

I usually go all in and try to lose weight quickly, but this time I really want to make a proper lifestyle change and lose slowly (which is tough to mentally adjust to!). I’ve set MyFitnessPal to 1800 calories with a 100g protein goal. I’m pescatarian, so I’ve stocked up on Huel Black, Graham’s cottage cheese, tuna, smoked salmon, Greek yoghurt, berries, lots of veg and fish.

I’m a bit nervous about side effects. A friend had a hard time when she increased her dose, but the first month it just helped quiet the food noise and made her crave better food. I haven’t asked about staying on the low dose if it works, but I will.

My DH is very anti also - I think it's much easier to be this way when you don't struggle with your weight or with moderation. I haven’t told him and don't plan to. Another reason why I want to go slow.

That said, maybe placebo, but I haven’t even thought about my usual afternoon tuck shop raid. I had a lovely salad for lunch and haven’t been thinking about dinner—not in a nauseous way, just not fixated on it.

Very strange… but so far, so good!

FurForksSake · 28/07/2025 15:41

Peering round the door… good luck guys! The August 24 threads have been such a supportive and wonderful community. You got this!

nearly one year in and I’ve lost 5.5st from 14st.

KickAss25 · 28/07/2025 15:55

Day 4 and got the dreaded sulphur burps. Wasn’t thinking it was that much of a big deal until my family commented about the funny smell in the car. Luckily they thought it was the dog!
