August 25 Starters

Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

I've just done my first jab. I've been staring at it in the fridge for the last 3 days. I have a few days off from work so I went for it.
I have around 4st to lose so here goes wish us all luck.

Lou16777 · 30/07/2025 17:59

Just done my first dose!!

NeedSleepNow · 30/07/2025 21:33

Good luck @Lushlylemons and @Lou16777 , how are you both feeling?

MumofSpud · 31/07/2025 06:26

I started a couple of days ago so like PP joining the August starter group.
I was v anti WLI when they first came out but my DD started MJ back in February and has done really well - it has actually given her the good eating habits she was missing!
I took mine just before going to bed
I have also increased my water intake (needed to do this anyway) / taking a multivitamin everyday / swimming regularly.
I don’t know if it’s psychological but the first day I had no hunger pangs at all and only ate because I thought I should!

user17294 · 31/07/2025 08:25

Hope it’s ok to join. My jabs have just arrived, trying to decide whether to start this morning or tomorrow. I had a bad food day yesterday so not sure if that will make the side effects worse if I start today?
I’m hoping to lose 3 1/2 stone!

Lizziebennett1 · 31/07/2025 13:04

I’ve ordered mine this morning. I’m a bit nervous, been considering getting it for months but finally done it.

@Lizziebennett1 understandable to be nervous. It’s a big decision but loads of support on this group. I’m almost a week in and have lost a few lbs already (mostly the holiday weight I seem to have unfairly put on over 10 days away.) I’ve had minimal side effects and am feeling positive about my decision to start MJ. It feels like it’s helping me to be me again! Good Luck!

Maplebean · 31/07/2025 14:10

Hi

I'm on day 6 of wegovy. I have lost 0.6kg so far and expect it will be 1kg come Saturday. Interestingly, up until now I’ve still been quite hungry but just had an aversion to unhealthy snacks and food. However, today really felt the fullness and barely managed to finish’s the almond croissant I had for breakfast. That’s all I’ve had all day as I am not hungry and feel a bit nauseous at the thought of eating. I’ll just have dinner and that will be me.

Other side effects have been quite minimal which is good as I only intend to stay at the lowest dose.

saywhaaaaaat · 31/07/2025 14:32

I’m almost a week in. Second jab will be happening tomorrow. Not sure how much weight I’ve lost as I’m on holiday but it’s been FASCINATING.

A little bit of nausea, little bit of a headache and a bit of constipation but not tooooo bad.

I’m realising being away I actually cook very healthy. Snacks are just like ughhhhh now. I’m struggling to hit a solid protein goal but again on holiday so food is kind of out of my control.

im glad I decided to go this route

I’m due to have my second jab of 2.5mg this evening. I’m getting nervous already! I had really bad nausea for 4 days last time, but when the sickness wore off, so did the suppression. I don’t know whether to try a half dose, or if that’s just delaying getting accustomed to the Mounjaro. I really want this to work, but I can’t be nauseous for half the week, every week.

Any thoughts?

Heya

Can you try half the dose?

Im very sensitive to medication and have had a period of illness recently so I only gave myself half of the lowest dose of wegovy this week (through doing half the clicks) as I wanted to run a ‘test’ dose. I didn’t expect it to work in terms of weight loss but it is actually working and I’ve still lost weight and had appetite suppression in that.

TheArtfulCrow · 31/07/2025 16:33

Hi everyone. My first dose of Mounjaro has been dispatched today so Ill be starting at the weekend hopefully! I'm 5' 3" and around 14st 7lbs at the minute, hoping to get down to 10 stone or so. I've lost some weight already doing lots of walking, couch to 5k and eating better but motivation is slipping so fingers crossed this gives me a wee boost to get back on track and keep going 🤞 Best of luck everyone.

Booksandcheese · 31/07/2025 16:56

Hi everyone. I will be starting on Monday 4th. It arrived today but I want to enjoy one last Sunday roast with DH before starting! Plus I'm working tomorrow and Saturday.

Lucienandjean · 31/07/2025 17:33

@MaplebeanI think I’m going to try that.

reluctantbrit · 31/07/2025 17:39

My second jab will be tomorrow. I have serious constipation so that is one issue I need to address.

Thanks to a office lunch today I think the day is a loss good wise but that’s life and can’t always be avoided.

NeedSleepNow · 31/07/2025 20:08

Good luck to all those starting soon.

I'll be doing my second jab tomorrow. I've had a few aches, felt a bit cold and had mild nausea but on the whole no real issues.

I've not craved snacks or sweet food until today. Today I could have easily eaten a cake or bag of sweets but didn't want it enough to give in to the craving of that makes sense.

I think I will have lost a few pounds, but imagine for the first few weeks most of that is water rather than fat loss.

On the whole I'm really pleased I've opted for the injections. I considered it and researched for a long time and was very nervous about it, but I'm feeling more in control of my eating now and very positive about the future

sausagesandwiches · 31/07/2025 21:22

I did my 2nd jab today -last time I did it in the evening and didn’t feel much if anything of side effects other than a bad nights sleep so I took it this morning instead

oh my word the wind has been painful today!

think I will be going back to an evening dose next week

NeedSleepNow · 31/07/2025 21:35

I was considering changing the time I take mine too @sausagesandwiches but I might not now hearing your experience. Last week I took it in the evening, slept well but was achey the next day.

DandelionPockets · 31/07/2025 21:41

Almost through my first week - next injection Saturday night. Weigh in will be Saturday morning.

SW 184lbs
CW ?
GW 147lbs

I'm finding it really hard to remember to drink water, anyone else? It's like the suppression is also making me forget about hydration.

I'm drinking a lot more now than I used to as I have been so thirsty since my first jab but I'm sure I'm not drinking enough still.

Do you know how much water we should be aiming to drink each day?

I keep seeing 2-3 ltrs a day and I know I'm not drinking the upper of that much though maybe hitting 2? I've also been very thirsty since my first jab. I've got a 600ml water bottle I fill 3 times a day, and I have a fizzy electrolyte tablet in but also do drink a couple of diet pops. (It has always been a great debate on previous diets whether pop counts as fluid intake even though it is fluid obviously) especially coke/Pepsi though I think it's been established that the diuretic effect of coke is less impactful than the liquid it contains!

I do think I'm drinking enough though because (TMI sorry) my wee is basically clear.

My body might just be in shock at getting water with electrolyte tablet rather than just Pepsi max though?

And of course fruit and veg contains water.

2l + a day

the weeks you drink less the weight loss will be less

timestressed · 01/08/2025 00:59

Took my very 1-st Mounjaro jab last night. No unpleasant side effects so far. Positive today was:
1/ hunger suppression
2/ rage at silly work issues which usually sends me to snack, I was quite serene about it today
I mentioned going on M to 2 groups of friends I am online in privare FB groups. Few who never mentioned before that they are on other medicines like Ozempoc or Wegovy mentioned it too, We are having interesting discussion now sharing our experiences.
I drink a lot of water anyway, eat lots of veg and know how to keep my protein up.
Fingers cross it is going to be a pleasant experience.
I am taking it as prescribe to control my T2 better, weight loss will be a bonus. I am considering therapy soon. I found 3 therapist, each with different approach to weight management issues.

Lou16777 · 01/08/2025 08:13

Hi all,

Took my first dose Wednesday around 6pm, yesterday I had no side effects and suppression was definitely there! Today I've woken up with a headache and nausea, don't know if it's because I maybe didn't drink enough water yesterday!

saywhaaaaaat · 01/08/2025 08:27

Heading home from my holiday right now and I’m going to jab later today. I am actually feeling supression still which is good. I’m really looking forward to be able to eat some salad or something though. I have that grubby fuzzy feeling on my insides I get when I eat too much stodgy. 😆
