Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Thanks for the new thread!

I took my first 2.5 dose on Monday night, touch of diarrhoea on Tuesday morning but no other side effects. Suppression kicked in on Tuesday.

My concern is that maybe I’m not eating enough.. here’s what I’ve had (note I never eat breakfast, haven’t for many years):

Tuesday:
Lunch - small bowl Greek yoghurt with raspberries & blueberries
Dinner - tiny sliver of cheese omelette, some salad
Drinks/snacks - 1 cup instant coffee, no sugar

Today:
Lunch - bowl of leek & potato soup
Dinner - 1x grilled skewer consisting of 3x chunks chicken, 2x chunks halloumi, a couple of pepper & onion slices. Tablespoon of homemade potato salad. Tablespoon of homemade tzatziki and 1 small piece of flatbread.
Drinks/snacks - 2 cups instant coffee, no sugar

Does the above look like I’m very short of calories/protein? Really struggling to eat more and I don’t want to set myself up for disaster once I’m no longer on MJ, but if that seems like an ok daily food intake then that’s ok.

Grateful for opinions! Thanks 🙏

FlappyFish · 29/05/2024 20:46

I can’t believe how quickly we fill the threads now. 😳

OP posts:
FlappyFish · 29/05/2024 20:50

@PopcornFiend honestly that’s about what I managed until I adjusted. It’s not enough. But I also know that when the suppression is hard even managing that amount feels a lot. I’m not great on supplements and what to add, so as people move over I’m sure there will be better advice than my pointless comment. 😅🤦🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
PopcornFiend · 29/05/2024 20:53

@FlappyFish not pointless at all! Thanks for your reply, good to know it’s not an uncommon amount of food at least at the start

Mencia · 29/05/2024 21:01

Can anyone recommend protein shakes (sachets/bags) which are not Purition? I ordered several flavours a few weeks back but I absolutely hate the texture. To the point of feeling sick. It feels like greasy and at the same time too watery and with all the grainy bits. Cannot stand them.

Exitstrategist · 29/05/2024 21:01

.

NoImNotCurvyImFat · 29/05/2024 21:01

Thank you for another thread

I’m on my second week of 5mg

feeling really good but I just hardly want to eat and when it’s do it’s bland food but on the odd occasions I want something full of flavour

I have just had a chicken salad with four new potatoes and that’s enough I would have scoffed at this being enough for dinner two months ago

Jochef · 29/05/2024 21:02

7.5mg being delivered tomorrow.
22lb loss in 8 weeks (sorry it’s in old money)

Have ‘pinch me’ moments when I stand on the scales, and never mind the physical- the impact it’s had on my mental health is HUGE.

No longer squeezing into my underwear, using bra extensions, and wearing my stretchy pants because I WANT to, not because I HAVE to!!!

I’m loving it, and I’m loving being me again!!!
I take all the niggly side effects and raise you a happy woman wearing a size 14 jacket 😂😂😂

Onwards ladies!!!!

MrsBurtMacklin · 29/05/2024 21:02

Thanks @FlappyFish for the new thread!

@PopcornFiend Doesn't look enough to me either however side effects and getting used to the drug mean that my eating has been the same sometimes. It's only 5+ weeks into 5mg that I can eat two decent meals. I'm sure that when our bodies are used to it, we'll be able to eat better. I definitely find that prioritising protein, veg and water helps - carbs are a stretch too far half the time.

lurkylurk · 29/05/2024 21:07

@PopcornFiend

Doesn't sound like enough protein which you want to make sure you get so you don't lose muscle mass (or hair!) It can be easier to drink rather than eat if not hungry so maybe add a protein shake? If you don't want thick creamy ones a lot of us like the clear whey ones. If you prefer a whole food option there's Purition shakes.

Or even things like if you're having a veggie soup add some chicken pieces or have a small omelette for lunch with some ham or chicken added.

I wasn't feeling good yesterday and still off today so I had a small bowl of chicken and vegetable broth with half a protein bagel thin for lunch, added some more chicken to the soup, couldn't finish the soup though but made sure I'd had all the chicken in it!

Adding the chicken to it and the protein bagel half meant it was closer to 20g protein than the 6g it would have been just for the soup.

I had one chicken enchilada for dinner (which also had a bit of cheese) with a portion of salad and that's it for today. Don't usually have breakfast either.

NoImNotCurvyImFat · 29/05/2024 21:09

Jochef that’s great to read

its been great for my mental health too the not obsessing about food, the feeling of losing weight and not squeezing into clothes, I feel less out of breath I feel good about myself again and I can’t remember the last time I did

the side effects are manageable

It’s bloody brilliant

WoolyMammoth55 · 29/05/2024 21:09

@Mencia this may not be what you are after, but I make 'homemade' protein shakes - it's useful to have a Nutribullet or similar high speed blender to do this though...

My base recipe is: 1 apple blended with water into a "juice"; then add 1 big scoop organic whey protein like this one; 1 tbsp cacao/cocoa powder; and optional half tsp peanut butter / blueberries / splash of milk / teeny scoop of collagen.

Add a few grains of salt or some electrolytes and it's a delicious hydrating protein-fest! Takes 2 mins from picking up the apple and all tastes like real food, nothing horrid or synthetic.

But if you're after the convenience of a packet then it's not much good to you, in which case sorry 😖

CiderJabs · 29/05/2024 21:09

@FlappyFish in the last thread when you said "all this talk of farting" I thought you were going to say that's the reason why the thread filled up so fast 😂

lurkylurk · 29/05/2024 21:11

@NoImNotCurvyImFat
@Jochef

I'm always moaning as I seem to have had all the side effects and only half the weight loss! I'm really happy for both of you though and I'm sure I'll be happier about it once I've lost some more!

lurkylurk · 29/05/2024 21:12

@CiderJabs 😂😂

@FlappyFish Thank you for the new thread, bet you didn't think you'd have to be starting another so soon!

3wDavid · 29/05/2024 21:13

PSA for anyone looking for protein powder: Dose&Co. It’s available at Holland & Barrett and it’s spenny but tastes delicious and has collagen in it! I have been taking it long before starting on MJ but these past few days have been making a daily banana milkshake with it and it’s been awesome.

Bananabuttons · 29/05/2024 21:18

Thank you for the new thread, it’s keeping me occupied while I wait for my first delivery which should be coming tomorrow.

Can I ask if people are taking anything to minimise loose skin. I’ve got at least 4.5 stone to lose and I’m worried I’ll end up with lots of loose skin. I’m 45 and peri menopausal which won’t help.

Has anyone here managed to loose a significant amount of weight and avoid loose skin?

Sorry for all the questions, I’m excited/anxious and overthinking everything tonight.

3wDavid · 29/05/2024 21:22

@Bananabuttons that’s a great question, watching with interest because I’d like to know the answer too!!

for me personally, I take daily collagen, and aim to exercise which should help to get things toned up. That + slow and steady weight loss should minimize the dreaded loose skin but following with interest to see what others say!

Rulay · 29/05/2024 21:24

Thanks for the new thread.

I've just taken my second 2.5mg a day early because the effects of the first injection have well and truly worn off and I'm in danger of going well and truly off the rails and having a massive binge.

3wDavid · 29/05/2024 21:27

@Rulay oh good thinking getting that early! Please update us how you feel in the next few days, I am dreading my second dose on Saturday…really do not want a repeat of this week 🙈

GlueNoGlue · 29/05/2024 21:31

Just checking in!

Ghilliedu · 29/05/2024 21:32

Marking my place on the new thread.

a pharmacist from med express followed up with me today about my terrible vomiting episodes and told me to either stop my treatment or move back down to 2.5. However, she said I was absolutely not allowed to take 2.5 from my current 5mg pen and I had to order a new pen. Well that won’t be happening!!

Now wondering if they’ll let me order another 5 or if they’ll put something on my account to say I can only order a 2.5. Guess I can always just switch, which I’ll be doing anyway if they have removed all the codes!

QueenOfHiraeth · 29/05/2024 21:37

@Bananabuttons I was told by a personal trainer, when I was low-carbing some years ago, that you cannot completely prevent loose skin but can do some things to minimise it which include keeping healthy fats in the diet, take collagen and vitamins plus moisturise well. She also said that the skin cannot shrink dramatically but the body can adjust a bit for up to 2 years after weight loss (this is why bariatric patients are told to wait after surgery)

ClonedSquare · 29/05/2024 21:41

Placemarking.

We're off on a weekend break this weekend so I'm expecting no weight loss this week. I find I can still eat restaurant sized meals while on Mounjaro, although I often leave some on my plate which was unheard of before. But anyway, lots of meals out this weekend so I'm not going to beat myself up if the scales don't move. Going to go into it strictly next week, working on more protein and less chocolate (I've still been having the odd bit most days, although it's a fun size pack not a sharing pack like in the past!)

Rulay · 29/05/2024 21:42

I definitely will! I've found this week a real challenge physically and psychologically I have to say. I don't like change, I don't like the unknown and I've walked right into the middle of it! Hopefully next week will be better but I suspect I'll need the 5mg sooner rather than later given the way my appetite came roaring back after a few days.
