Scottish elopement stories

spaghettimaretti · 02/05/2023 23:47

My DP and I are planning to get married this year. Due to difficult family situations on both sides we are going to elope, just the two of us. Second time around for me and first for him.

We live in Scotland and want to marry here but undecided as to whether we want rural or urban.

So I’m looking for recommendations / personal experiences please.

Church, registry or humanist? The first two limit your venues, the third allows anywhere you can persuade a celebrant to attend (top of a mountain, in your granny's garden...)

Near where you live, miles away, close to a nice restaurant/honeymoon hotel? We need more information!

I’m open to hearing about all sorts. Anywhere in Scotland. Like the sound of elopement packages where the legwork has been done!

in Scotland you can literally get married anywhere, it doesn’t have to be humanist. A registrar or any celebrant can just do it for you.

PP is right, we need more information. One of my friends got married on a clifftop at the coast, no flowers/fancy outfits/music, but the fact you mention an elopement package suggests you want something more formal? Cos if you just want you get married you could do it anywhere like you say. Wouldn't it be better to pick somewhere personal to you rather than ask on here? Maybe an island you've been to as a couple or somewhere you went on holiday growing up?

What legwork though? To elope all you need is the M10 forms, someone to marry you and witnesses.

Wee weddings at Crear is probably the best known elopment package, apart from Gretna.

Ok thanks for replies. Maybe I should ask for experiences rather than ideas. Have any of you eloped yourselves?
