MerlinsBeard · 12/02/2010 17:03

yay SEA

can't help with reg office sorry

nickelbabe · 12/02/2010 17:04

congratulations!

i would think about reception dates/venue first, actually, because Reg off only takes 20 mins, so you can book it anytime...

southeastastra · 12/02/2010 17:13

oh okay nicklebabe am clueless

nickelbabe · 12/02/2010 17:16

you really have just opened up the can of worms: i'm going to have to direct you to "www.itsyrdayhun.com"

seriously, though, don't worry about it. it'll all be raight.

MerlinsBeard · 12/02/2010 17:29

talk to your DH to be to get some idea of dates then ring reg office and see wqhat they have around then. Pencil a date in and then ring your reception venues and ee if their dates correspond.

Then confirm it all

MerlinsBeard · 12/02/2010 17:29

sorry for typos, i pressed post instead of preview

southeastastra · 12/02/2010 17:41

have no idea what venues to pick or whether to invite the whole family (lots of them) will have to do some research

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 12/02/2010 17:43

Finding out the number of people you want Vs the number of people the reg office will fit in would be a good starting place then

southeastastra · 12/02/2010 17:44

oh yes good job you're here mumofmonsters

1 Sort childcare

2 Book Register Office

3 Send out party invitations for the day AFTER the wedding

4 Buy new frock

5 Get to RO and pull 2 witnesses off the street

6 Get wed

7 Go to the pub

8 Night away in hotel

9 Come back and enjoy the party and then tell everyone it is a wedding party!

Perfectly blissful, saved a fortune but then you get a mega party!

CONGRATULATIONS - have you got a ring?

southeastastra · 12/02/2010 17:56

ha that's quite a good idea, think i'd rather do it all on one day though

OP posts:
Tillyscoutsmum · 12/02/2010 17:57

Congrats

Would suggest starting with how much you want to spend and who you want to invite. You can get married in any register office (not just your local one).

Venues for reception/party tend to get booked up first, so would maybe start there and then fit registry in from there. Lots of hotels have civil licence so you can get the registrar to do it at the hotel - saves people having to go to two places

How exciting.

MerlinsBeard · 12/02/2010 18:03

yay tilly-queen of wedding arranging is here

Tillyscoutsmum · 12/02/2010 18:14

MoM - you know I have a special siren that goes off as soon as anyone mentions the "W" word

southeastastra · 12/02/2010 19:01

it's much appreciated - the thought of all the arranging ususally makes us keep putting it off.

OP posts:
Tillyscoutsmum · 13/02/2010 09:32

By far the hardest bit is agreeing a guest list and fitting it round your budget accordingly (i.e. absolutely everyone you want there and providing a few nibbles and a glass of fizz or a more select bunch with a full on sit down three course jobby). Once you've got that bit sorted - the rest is easy

We went for the former - late afternoon ceremony (so you only have to feed people once) and a very informal party

I'm happy to help with anything - just give me a shout

geordieminx · 13/02/2010 09:34

I'm here!

Tillyscoutsmum · 13/02/2010 09:39

You've got that siren as well, haven't you geordie ?

PinkyWithABrain · 13/02/2010 09:42

SEA I'm so glad you started this post! I got engaged last Sunday and have started to freak out already about organising a wedding...have some family issues and bought a house last march so DF and I are still getting used to all the bills so saving thousands for what is essentially a one day party is pretty daunting! Congratulations though and I hope you try to enjoy this first bit without getting too wrapped up in wedding plans!

GossipMonger · 13/02/2010 20:41

Get married at 3pm so that you only have to feed people once.

We did this and then had bacon sandwiches at 11pm!!

What about hiring a fish and chip van for the food?

GossipMonger · 18/02/2010 17:02

How are your plans??

southeastastra · 26/02/2010 19:48

i'm awaiting a ring and have told everyone and am researching places for reception am excited!
