Is anyone good with picking songs?

I have struggled to find the right first wedding dance song. We are getting in a professional choreographer (gift from friends mum!) to choreograph the dance and they need a song. I would really like something that starts slow and romantic and builds up to be powerful) hoping to add in a few lifts, spins and twirls.

The sorts of things I have liked

1. The dirty dancing song: but too cliche and not sure he could lift me above his head!
2. Lover by Taylor Swift: this was friends wedding dance song and was really lovely by DP doesn't like it
3. Perfect by Ed Sheeran: Really like this one but also heard it was the most common first dance song so thought maybe it was over done?

I would really like a song I know and I don't know much niche stuff, just mainstream.

Can anyone help?

How about a jazz classic; My baby just cares for me by Nina Simone, you can learn a simple American jive routine.

Probably is a common wedding song, but A Thousand Years by Christina Perri may fit the bill, as there is probably a couple of places in the last third of the song that you could fit ‘flourishes’ into (like a twirly lift).

It was used in the Twilight films as the wedding song though, which could put you off if that worries you.

Old school, could also consider Because You Loved Me - Celine Dion. In fairness, pretty sure most of her songs have a crescendo at the end!

What songs do you both like / do you have a song that means something to both of you?

DH and I don’t have a song that’s ‘our song’ but we picked music for our wedding that we loved and a song for our first dance that has always made us think of each other

I'm had "I'm ready" Bryan Adams. Beautiful played loud and very atmospheric.

thank you for the replies so far- I have to admit I don't really know many of them. I like classics or mainstream pop. Anything I know really so things that have been in the charts over the years
