Scottish Elopment Ideas?

WeeScottishWedding · 04/03/2026 09:01

Name changed for this*
DD and her Fiance have decided that they want a tiny Scottish wedding, with immediate family only present.
Including the bride and groom there will be 10 people present.
Does anyone have any good ideas where to start with this? Any venues that you can recommend?

In Scotland you can get married absolutely anywhere as long as the celebrant is willing to go there. Beach, mountain, pub whatever. Two of my friends got married in a holiday rental lodge where they all stayed and they got caterers in. If you can tell us where in Scotland they might like and what sort of things they like we might be able to help you. The possibilities are limitless.

We did exactly this in 2011, 8 people in total. Married at the Duisdale hotel on the Isle of Skye. We all stayed there and had a meal in the restaurant too. It was just perfect for us.

Crear weddings has stunning locations like beaches (including a favourite beach of mine!)

they have a 12 person package you could look at: www.crearweddings.co.uk/crear-weddings/wedding-packages

Gretna Green is traditional ...

That's because it's just across the border and girls could get married in Scotland without parental consent earlier than in England (and I think "civil" marriage or "common law" marriage" was recognised in Scotland but not England, but I'm a bit hazy on that).

I can never understand couples who already live in Scotland decide on a "romantic" GG wedding, you could have it in your own garden if you wanted.

Just saying. OP hasn't actually said where the couple live at the moment.

Thank you for the replies, currently live in England (Midlands), Scottish ancestry on grooms side.
She is thinking more Scottish Highlands, beach or forest rather than Gretna. Not bothered by rain as they are a very outdoorsy couple.
Ideally with a nice warm hotel to go back to for a poshish dinner.
I will pass on the links. Thank you.

Crear weddings are amazing. The beach is beautiful and you have amazing views of Islay, Ghigha and Jura.
The staff are very friendly and the food is brilliant.

We had a small wedding in Scotland. We went on to air b and b and searched for weddings and found some amazing small castles, one of which we got married in and it was perfect. There were loads of lovely castles, grand homes etc.

Cannot recommend Crear highly enough. You have the option of a private beach, 100 year old barn, castle ruin, function hall or in the gardens. We had 10 people at our wedding. We stayed for 3 days, local registrar did the ceremony and brings the paperwork. Package included piper, flowers, photographer and we upgraded to the chefs tasting menu. The experience was out of the world.

Skye has the most amazing scenery for weddings. Look up Lynne Kennedy wedding photographer. People fly in from the US to have weddings there and have them photographer by her, with just a celebrant and bag piper in attendance.

If your daughter is still looking for ideas then friends of mine do elopement/ small wedding photography and are quite experienced in all the bits that need to go with making this happen.

Worth a chat if nothing else and their photos are stunning!
