Planning a wedding abroad just us and our children

We are considering getting married abroad, just us and our children. We have been together a long time and our families think it'll be a lovely idea too. We think possibly next summer in Cyprus but definitely open to ideas. We want it to be fully legal and not to need to marry in the UK before or after. Any tips or advice on wedding planners and how to go about it would be great. I have already contacted a few places online this afternoon. I'd love to hear from other people who have been married abroad or who are planning a wedding abroad at the moment.

We got married in Australia nearly 20 years ago. We found a wedding planner who arranged everything for us, helped us choose a celebrant, arranged the venue, photographer etc. All we needed to do was make the decisions, choose our outfits and turn up! Reading about all the hoopla with massive weddings on here makes me so glad we had our wedding that way. It was just us and our parents.

That’s not a wedding😂. You have to invite all your friends and family. And pay for everything as well. Guests can’t be paying for anything. If you invite them you look after them

Should add that it helped that we knew the location where the wedding was (a chapel in the grounds of a hotel we’d previously stayed at) and the venue recommended the wedding planners, so we had faith it was all legit. So if you can, I’d recommend choosing somewhere you are already familiar with, or that has a personal recommendation, it’s a lot of money to hand over! (Though I guess you could do it as part of a package holiday, in which case that would give you protection)
