Advice on wedding rings

I live in London and looking to buy wedding rings, where do you advise me to go? Hatton Gardens seems too fancy for plain wedding bands, but what do I know?! I've been looking online but my husband to be would prefer to go into a shop and try it in person. Would you mind if it was second hand rings or do you think it's bad luck?

What is a good material or specification to look for? I'm looking for plain ordinary ones, engraving inside would be nice but not necessary.

I'm thinking of getting a gold finish because that suits my tone more and I don't mind mixing metals if I ever want to wear silver or rose accessories.

What's the most comfortable type? Some rings feel bumpy and like I can't comfortably bring my fingers together. I'm allergic to nickel and ideally I'd like a ring I can wear 24/7 and wash my hands and shower without taking off. What gold type would be good for this? I want to go into the shop knowing what to look for. Thank you all.

I had a second hand engagement ring. I bought it from an antique auction. I paid £3,800 and had it immediately valued for insurance. It was valued at £18,000 (what it could cost to replace with like for like new) I bought a plain platinum band new from a local jewellers.

What a fantastic find and a great family heirloom!
