Amusing kids

Ok not a wedding but an engagement party - black tie but kids very much welcome and wanted

im thinking the disco will get a bit boring for the kids (aged between 3-18) - I have got those foam glow sticks for them to make it a bit more fun - multi function, multi coloured

This is where I’m up to on things to amuse the kids

i have had Switch with Mario Kart loaded suggested - which I can do as we have both console and game

ive got a load of the McDonalds Playmobil Happy Meal toys (new in box) for the younger kids (I ate a lot of fish fingers and carrot sticks in October 😂)

ive got some of those LED drawing pads on order

ive got a giant jenga game

ive got Headbanz game

i have a couple of instant print cameras and some photo props for selfies (and a blow up photo frame)

there is pizza, donuts (Krispy Kreme), crisp wall and sweet cart to cater for them - I know they all like that stuff and I know all the allergies/preferences and have catered accordingly

im thinking of getting connect 4

does this sound reasonable to keep them amused? I really want the kids to feel welcome and included, not an after thought!

Any thing you’d like to see/change?

thank you

Ps the older ones will be happy with the disco and drinking non alcoholic cocktails! Plus chatting to each other and taking loads of photos on their phones!

Oh wow! That's more than enough! We had kids at our engagement doo and all we supplied was colouring books! They loved the dance floor too xx

Ahhh that’s great. Thank you

I wouldn't let the younger kids loose with an instant print camera. They will have it broken in minutes. I think you've done loads to ensure they are entertained and don't forget the parents will likely bring consoles or sticker books.

RecordBreakers · 07/01/2026 20:54

I think that is completely OTT already.

It is a party. They can dance, or not dance. Parents will bring something with them if they think they need something else to amuse them.

Little ones love dancing, just make sure the Dj puts on some kids friendly tunes though to be honest the adults will love that too my dc loved abba from young.

It’s not your responsibility to entertain the kids. That’s the parents responsibility. Had 2 5 year olds at our wedding and they loved just dancing and running around with glow sticks.

When I got married children were very welcome but I didn’t plan anything special to entertain them. I see that as a parent’s job - if they think their children will need to be entertained when out and about then it’s up to them to pack colouring books or whatever.

It’s a very cheap one! No issues if it gets broken

That’s good to know

That’s a very child focussed party. I don’t think you need to do more.

ToadRage · 23/01/2026 20:08

That sounds like more than enough. I didn't have a whole lot to amuse the kids at my wedding. I made little goodie packs for each with bubble mix, stickers, crayons, sweets and a small toy. No one claimed to be bored.

I thought this was going to be a thread about the funny things kids did!

tedibear · 23/01/2026 23:06

Honestly I think the disco itself is fine. My kids age 3 and 5 just loved dancing. They were given some of the balloons to come home with 🤣 and they lasted until almost midnight and they didn’t want to go home but it was waaaaayyyy past their usual bedtime lol.

Isadora2007 · 23/01/2026 23:08

I think what you’ve got is lovely!! Some colouring in or table activities would be lovely too- maybe adults would enjoy it as well! Congratulations!
