Quickie Wedding Ideas

So me and partner have been together 14 years and have a little one on the way. We have decided that a quickie registry office wedding is what we want to do so we are thinking of organising it for later next year. We both hate attention so we are planning on just having our two friends as witness and obviously baby will be there too! I love my holidays so I thought to make the day abit more special we would go on holiday after. We will probably book Cornwall but maybe travel to exeter the day we wed, spend a night there and then rest of the journey to cornwall the next day. I just wondered if anyone else has had a quickie wedding like this and what you did to make the day special still? I feel abit weird maybe not going for drinks with friends after but I thought I could get them a little trinket gift for being witnesses which would be nice and then have holiday to look forward to after. Also, what to wear?! I won't be spending much for such a short wedding but its whether I go for a white dress or just whatever colour and I can wear the dress again if I want to. What did you do? Thanks

There was just dh and I at our wedding and a random witness. It was perfect. I wore a red dress which I never wore again, we did a helicopter ride in the afternoon and were asleep by 9pm!

And you're not even going to pay for lunch or dinner for your 2 guests?
Even if its a very low key wedding like this. If you are asking anyone to come and especially if they are your witnesses then its really rude to not feed them.

OK troll have a nice day 😊

Why do you think they’re trolling? It seems normal manners if you’re asking someone to attend your wedding so offer them goid and drink? I wouldn’t let someone be in my house for 5 minutes before offering them a drink at least.

Check if your baby will be allowed to attend your registry office, some councils only have room in their office for the couple and 2 witnesses. Children of all ages wait outside with a relative or family friend.

I agree with this. I'm also planning a simple wedding ceremony for myself and my fiancé, with our children present, our parents and 2 friends as witnesses- all of these would be invited to a lunch/dinner in a nice restaurant to celebrate. Still low key, still simple, yet nice for everyone..

Also @Rock94 , I get the unsure essay of what dress to wear! I think I'd go for a lovely yet not too expensive dress in either white or cream/beige/champagne colour, a dress I might keep to only wear on our wedding anniversary 😀 I just came up with it now. Before I'd think I'd just wear my dress for the day and then sell it but actually holding on to the dress as a special keepsake and possibly use it again and again on anniversaries is a great idea!

OP, my DH and I had a small registry office wedding with my two sisters as witnesses (not sure whether a baby would have been allowed - I think you’d better check) and then had a very nice lunch afterwards. I agree with other posters that it would be very odd not to offer some sort of hospitality to your witnesses. I wore a brightly coloured dress and jacket which I subsequently wore to a friend’s wedding.

Will parents not be upset this way? We did this with two witnesses and then had a celebration the following day and my goodness the upset that caused. Kind of marred the day tbh.

To offer a different view, our friends got married in secret and only myself and DP were witnesses- we went for lunch together afterwards and paid our share. We'd also paid train tickets and a hotel to be able to attend. We were honoured to be asked and didn't feel we needed anything in return.
