Elopement wedding ideas

Due to family not getting along. We have decided to elope to get married, we have 2 DC 5 and 6 months. I'm thinking May or October next year .

There will be just us 4 maybe a couple of others. I've looked at Cyprus as it looks easy , and found some lovely hotels to stay in that would suit our needs. Has anyone got married in Cyprus , or have any other idea I'm also looking at Greece.

My Dad got married in Italy and seems to think it was complicated (although I'm not sure it is).

We don't really have a budget as such so all suggestions welcome ! I'm not planning to get married in the hotel , I'm thinking a sea view wedding, and a private dinner on the beach or a nice restaurant after. All suggestions and advice much appreciated!

Why don't you just get married at your local registry office - and plan a nice honeymoon, or family holiday ?
Tell people when you get back

Yep definitely do this. The administration would be much more straightforward.

Good luck!

I would rather do it abroad, and getting married here and not telling people would just upset people.

I have a large family I'm extremely close to all of them but they dont get on its complicated. If I get married here they will definitely all want to be there . I was looking at doing a registry office here and a small meal afterwards but it just won't work without upset . And if I got married here I would want them there . Going away gives the person people don't get on with an easy out and saves me any worry.

Travel agents often have a destination wedding brochure, if that helps. I wish we’d done that!

I vote for a registry office wedding at home too - with every one who wants to attend.
Afternoon tea and drinks at the local and then fly off for a magical honeymoon.
Surely all the family complications would stay in the background at the wedding and at the short drinks reception.
Expect adults to behave like adults.

Could the family become more fragmented by the elopement?
Will the family want to put on a celebration in your honour once you return anyway?

You can do that with your children in the Lake District in 2 day packages, just tell everyone else afterwards. Very enjoyable and stress free

I've been looking into the Lake District as well. It looks lovely. I still want a magical day even though it's small .

Cyprus is definitley the easiest place abroad to get married if you are from the UK. I'd say go for it if that is what you would like. There are loads of companies that offer wedding planning/packages. I know someone who married there and they had the best day with no regrets.

We eloped! Just us two and 2 strangers at city Chambers in Edinburgh (we are from England) was really easy to organise, lovely setting, took 15 mins!
