There is a wedding DIY page on Facebook so start there!

what type of party? (buffet? if so catered or home made? young kids or older relatives?)

any idea what size the hall is? budget?

What do you like and not like?

Are you a crafter with a day to get setup on the day, or do you want to just inflate the balloons and spend 10 minutes setting up?

I have seen more disaster than success stories to be honest from friend/family weddings but there's a lot you can do if you have either a budget or some time!

Looking at using the in house caterer for either a hog roast or hot buffet. A friend has offered to make cup cakes so think food is sorted.

I have a lot of people who have said they will help so I have man power. I don't want to go OTT but would like it to look a bit nicer than it currently does.

You can do a lot with flowers and fairy lights. Any ideas for colours / theme?

I have fairly simple tastes, don't like fussy things. Thinking either a rustic feel or quite clean simple lines. For example, one of the venues we've looked at had a really ornate decorative post box for cards. It was really fussy and pretentious and not me at all.

Not yet, I viewed one venue on friday and the other yesterday so not formulated a plan or theme at all yet.
Actual wedding is in Italy but think that would be a bit naff as a theme!
Arrrrgh! I really don't know!

The ONE thing that is important to me is that we remember our late parents. Instead of having a memory table, im thinking of having photos of them (and maybe some pics of us as kids and together) on the tables instead of centre pieces. Am thinking of either getting some cheap and second hand photo frames for each table or maybe using different height table number holders to hold pictures instead. Or is that a terrible idea?!!

The Range have some very good pre made dried flower arrangements which could be centre pieces, add some battery fairy lights and some favours and maybe a candle or two.

This one is small but I like it

That's quite nice - though I wasn't even thinking of table centre pieces. Looks like the range is a good place to look for bits though

It sounds like a lovely idea. I think having something personal to you is really important.

vintage photo frames would be lovely for pic of parents etc - there are places on etsy which sell bundles of frames if you don't have time to trawl charity shops - and if you can get nice ones then you could use them for a photo wall at home afterwards or gift them with suitable pics etc for Christmas - if you get some card in your colour or a decent quality craft card and a cutting mat you can also make mounts in the same card for all of them to tie them together nicely

lights/flowers/battery candles in jars look lovely for a rustic theme, in groups and dotted around tables and if you can find some decent looking fake foliage strings they could look great on tables, on those hanging hoop things if you want to have stuff high up, and hiding things that you don't like!

Hobbycraft have some great things like wooden letters you can fill with whatever matches your theme if you want initials or a word or whatever. It depends how much you want to lean into 'wedding' really I guess - you don't have to do the whole postbox/photoprops/cakestand thing but if you do there are a lot of wooden and craftcard options out there that can look really pretty with a few flowers and fairy lights scattered around

Oh i like that a lot. We aren't having a seating plan/ table numbers but something similar to that could really work - thanks
