Losing weight for my wedding

Rodena · 23/07/2025 20:48

I'm currently using the weight loss jabs and am getting married this time next year. I have no idea when I should go dress shopping to allow enough time to choose a dress but also to allow for the weight I will have lost by the time the wedding comes around

Oof I totally get the timing worry — you want to feel amazing in your dress and not stress about major changes too close to the day.
A lot of brides in the same boat aim to start dress shopping around 8–10 months before the wedding. That gives you enough time to find something you love, plus alterations — but still allows for more progress with the jabs. You can also go for a style that allows a bit of wiggle room just in case (lace-up backs are magic ✨).
If it helps, some boutiques are used to this kind of journey and can talk you through options without pressure. You're 100% not the first to feel this way — and you’ve got loads of time to figure it all out 💛

My friend lost 7 stone between choosing her dress and the wedding on jabs. I’d go and look to get an idea of what you like but you might prefer a different style once you lose weight

I also had a friend who lost a lot of weight before her wedding and it was extremely stressful getting the dress to fit her! It had to be padded out and pinned as it couldn't be properly altered.

I'd honestly consider a high street dress or going to a sample sale if you aren't ideologically opposed to those kinds of dresses.

I got mine secondhand and it was honestly such a beautiful dress.

How much are you aiming to lose?

I'm going through something similar, getting married next year. Currently lost 10kg through calorie counting and hoping to lose another 6-8kg if I can and feel so nervous about dress shopping!

That's what I'm wondering...if I will like something a little more slinky if I'm slimmer!

Wow well done!
I calorie count too now but couldn't do it without the help of the jabs. They are amazing 🤩

I've done really well on the jabs so far. But about another 2 stone is my aim. Then will reassess
