Chester - group lunch for 16

We are getting married next month at Chester registry office and some family and friends are coming to meet us afterwards for lunch. Can you recommend anywhere in Chester for a group of 16 (4 of which are children aged 2-9), somewhere not too posh but a nice setting with decent pub meals (burger, pasta, chicken, steaks, kids meals) preferably where people order and pay at the bar (don't ask, family politics).
Thank you

Could you ask for separate bills (upfront) rather than ordering at bar?

The Architect, by the racecourse, has a couple of private dining rooms and the menu covers all those things I think... https://www.brunningandprice.co.uk/architect/menus/daily-menu/

Telfords Warehouse might suit you. It’s quite informal and friendly and in a lovely building on the canal.

Great thank you, will have a look at both

The Falcon - beautiful
The Cheshire Cat Country Pub - space outside and access to the canal. I saw them cater for a small wedding.

Is The Architect Hotel (suggested above) close enough to the City Wall Walk which is a spectacular vantage point for guests to look over the race course, etc?

Its garden leads on to the city walls as they go past the racecourse. Lots of room for the kids to run about!

Will have a look at all of these. The falcon appears to be temporarily closed?

Pretty certain the Falcon is still closed - I re-opened in November 2023 after many years of closure but the new tenants lasted only until June 2024.

Wirral Community Narrowboat Trust .. offers trips from Cheshire Cat, should you be staying there.

Private room at The Architect for sure.

Telfords Warehouse is not at all a wedding pub.

Chez Jules on Northgate st have an upstairs and I know they do large groups. Walkable through the city to get there so lots of opportunities for photos.

the architect is good- again walkable from the reg office but not past the famous bits. Brunning and price places are all of a standard.

Would recommend the architect or Oddfellows? Haven't eaten in the latter recently but they do have separate dining areas
