Problem with photographer

We've loved one local photographer's work and were delighted he was available on our date. He was also offering a winter discount and we messaged back saying we would love to book. Fast forward yesterday we messaged him to finalise all the details and he said he does not have our date booked! Apparently we haven't signed contract (which we received and thought we signed it, but looks like we did not). He's still free but asking us to pay full price. Can he do that, is this legal to quote two different prices? We love his work but feel this is so unfair!

From his point of view you didn't sign the contract. They probably thought you were going elsewhere. You are now wanting to book when the discount isn't on offer.

I think it is their discretion and they've decided to not (perhaps worried you are flakey/not fully committed to their service so want full deposit ?)

If you paid a deposit he should honor that price. If not, lesson learned really. He doesn't have to honor it.

He offered the discount so he could get work booked in before a certain date and know he could rely on it. He didn’t benefit from knowing he had work secured in advance, so he understandably feels you shouldn’t benefit from the discount.

Speaking as a photographers wife, you’re at fault. Discounts tend to be short term too. You sound a nightmare so hope for his sake you go elsewhere
