ill on wedding day

Has this or similar ever happened to anyone else?

I got married a couple weeks ago and woke up that morning with a migraine. It was manageable at first, but then just as it was time to walk down the aisle I began feeling dizzy and sick. I had to sit on a chair through the whole ceremony then the second we were announced husband and wife I had to run out the room to be sick. My new husband and staff members then helped me into bed where I spent the rest of the day and night vomiting unable to lift my head. I missed out on everything - photos, dinner, speeches, reception. I feel awful that guests spent money on outfits, travel, accommodation etc and I never even got to speak to any of them.

Am I the only one this has ever happened to? I’m glad I made it through the most important part but I’m Feeling very embarrassed about the whole thing, and can’t seem to get over it even though it’s been a few weeks.

Happened to me OP. Both DH and I got norovirus a couple days before the wedding and while we managed to go to our wedding were both v unwell the whole day. It was miserable. But! The marriage is more important than the wedding, try and focus on that. It took me a while to get over it too, but i did eventuallt. Don't be embarrassed, and just give it time. Also, huge congratulations!!!

I’m so sorry that’s such an awful thing to happen on your wedding day. Please don’t feel embarrassed at all. You’ve no reason for that. And don’t feel bad for other people. I expect they are all really feeling for you.

Congratulations on your marriage.

Illness on wedding days feels so unfair. Dh marginally avoided hospitalisation for ours

I had a sinus infection and three hours sleep on my wedding day. I spent the day sweating, swaying from the tiredness and passed out the minute we got to our suite.
My husband has a lovely photo of me unconscious after a whole evening on the water.
It was a fucking awful day physically. But I married my husband and that was great.
Bonus points, I almost suffocated when getting a massage on our honeymoon!

I have a colleague who had notovirus on her wedding day, a literally said "I do" and missed the rest.

I had my period arrive on the morning of my wedding. Cue stomach pains and fear that I might ruin my dress.

sorry this happened to you on your big day

Ohmygod. As a soon to be bride this is a huge huge huge fear. I suffer from frequent tooth abcesses. The last 2 holidays I've had I've suffered from them. Terrified for this, or something similar on my wedding day this summer. I'm also terrified that OH or the kids will get ill for the day too. Ugh. I have wedding insurance, I'd hope if things were this bad, I'd be able to use the insurance!

I had a banging headache on my wedding day. Obviously not in the same league as a migraine though. I managed to power through the service and the meal but I felt pretty rubbish and went to bed early.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 23/03/2025 20:28

That’s awful OP 🤯

I get married very soon and I’m hoping that the kids (3 and 5) manage not to get ill or infect us with anything. Chicken pox is going around the nursery and sickness bugs round the school so it wouldn’t surprise me if we catch something.

With it being on a bank holiday I’m also dreading ours neighbours having one of their very loud all night parties the night before the wedding.

I woke up feeling incredibly nauseous on my wedding day, was unable to stomach any food. Survived until the starters came out and the smell of the crispy duck sent me to the toilets where I vomited for England. Mum took me home to bed. 😥
Honestly, still not over it (was 15 years ago) and have a general dislike of weddings since then too, as mine was shit.
