Too old for Converses....

Essie55 · 10/02/2025 11:32

Have my wedding booked for next year. It's second time around for both of us.
I'm already being distracted by dresses & stuff. I'm not one for heels, ever. I had a smallish block heel last time & didn't feel comfortable. I've been looking at Converses; have seen some beautiful hand embroidered pairs. And think they'd be OK under a floor length dress. My trouble is I always worry about what others think, feel that some can be rather judgemental at times. I'm in my 50s and wonder if I'm too old for this kind of look?
Thanks

Your wedding, your rules

PaintDecisions · 10/02/2025 11:36

No such thing as too old for Converse.

My mate tried to tell me I HAD to have a tiara for my wedding. I did indeed tell her to piss off.

Wear whatever the hell you like and screw other people's opinions. You need to be comfy on your wedding day.

Changingplace · 10/02/2025 11:39

There’s no rules, wear what you like :) The converse sound great x

Lottapianos · 10/02/2025 11:53

You're absolutely NOT too old for Converse. I don't wear heels either, and definitely would not be making an exception for any wedding, mine or anyone else's! You should look like yourself on your wedding day - maybe a snazzier version than usual, but not someone else's idea of what you 'should' look like

Guavafish1 · 10/02/2025 11:56

there are no age restrictions

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 10/02/2025 11:57

Wear whatever you like.

DelphiniumBlue · 10/02/2025 12:00

Wear what you like, it’s your wedding, you set the tone.
But do your guests a favour and let them know in advance, so that they don’t feel they have to force themselves into heels because it’s expected. I reckon they’ll be only too delighted!

Fromage · 10/02/2025 12:00

Converse come in sizes, not ages.

Wear whatever you like, you're the bride.

Congratulations! or Conversulations?

Think of who the judgypants people are, and don't invite them, if at all possible.

CraftyNavySeal · 10/02/2025 12:05

What’s the alternative, some Hotter shoes 😅

None of the younguns wear converse anyway , they are distinctly millennial shoes now of which the oldest are 44 so I think you’re fine!

Pootles34 · 10/02/2025 12:08

I wore flats, although more of a pump than converse. No one can see your shoes anyway under floor length dress, and it's such a long day on your feet.

I think I was barefoot by about 10pm though tbf...

icann · 10/02/2025 12:10

I wore converse for my wedding. So did my husband.. on the back had the date of the wedding and mine said bride and his said groom. Mine were white with purple laces and his were black with purple laces. So much comfier than traditional wedding shoes

chakrakkhan · 10/02/2025 12:16

Converse was founded in the 1900's, they over 100 years old! Of course you're not too old for them.

Emptyflames · 10/02/2025 12:19

Branleuse · 10/02/2025 11:43

Wear what you like of course, but how about some sparkly flats?
My wedding shoes were by hot chocolate. They have some fab ones

Oh they're uglyyyyyy
I would definitely judge op for wearing those

Converse though, no age on those

onwardsup4 · 10/02/2025 12:29

Not too old never too old. I think converse are the perfect any age trainer

Ha this. I'm at the upper end of millennial and I definitely don't feel "current" wearing converse. But they look fine

PopGoesBang · 10/02/2025 12:35

They do custom converse on the site. I got married last year. Don't wear heals.
I had 'Mrs Pop' embroidered on one and the wedding date on the other. Hears on the souls and a few other bits.
My girls also worse converse as bridesmaids. Didn't regret a thing and feels a bit special whenever I wear them now!

CienAnosDeSoledad · 10/02/2025 12:56

Of course you're not too old, wear whatever you want. It's a bit sad that a woman in her 50s cares so much about other peoples' opinions and on her wedding day, no less. Where's that famous don't give a fuck-ness of over 30s or past menopause, at least?

Many people will judge you (or me, or her, or anyone) no matter what. Too fat, too thin, too tall, to short, too this, too that, wear white dress and they'll mutter about muttons and second weddings, wear non white - not weddingy enough, etc. Many people wouldn't care either way. The point is, screw what 'people think'.

Side note, those glittery shoes are.. awful. Sorry. They look like the ones my DD wore when she was in her unicorn, glitter and all things pink phase at around 4-5 years old.

ahdlfj · 10/02/2025 12:58

I don't think anyone under 30 wears converse these days?! (Maybe those platform ones...) wear what you want.

littlemisssunshine247 · 10/02/2025 13:02

Wear whatever you want to wear. However, converse are the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn, FYI!

Second this. However nice they look, there's no support and given you'll be on your feet a good deal of the day. I think there's better out there for you.

Easipeelerie · 10/02/2025 13:10

Do what you want but Converses and wedding dresses is a bit old hat.

lovingmememe · 10/02/2025 13:17

My neighbour is 82 and wears leggings /skinny jeans long fancy tops and has bright pink hair.
Her moto is do what you want and not care what others think.
She pulls her style off and i love it.
So no one is too old for anything.
